Jaik's Sketches & Thoughts
So update for now on CHOW, had more ideas so I'm going to redraw it in a different pose, changed the weap etc. My dad gave me a really nice, really old fountain pen and I really like using it, so did a pen sketch study of a drawing in a book I found, and then I had some spare time at work so I sketched what I could see out the roller door. 2 portraits, the first was better before I colours it, kind of ruined it, especially with the fountain pen on the hair :3 love that pen.

Hey there Jake!
I like your pencil studies man, mind if I suggest something?
It seems you're drawing rendering the details and trying to place it all together to form a bigger picture. This usually cause more trouble then you hope for, so, you may want to try what has worked for me.
I started carrying around two pencils, a HB and a 4B (a harder and a softer one, I don't know if the scale is the same outride Brazil). I used the harder pencil to softly lay the structure - drawing the big masses of the figure, defining the pose, making it stand straight and all that. once that was solid, I came in with the softer pencil and made harder, well resolved lines above the sketch. It was dark enough so you could barely see the initial structure, and made the whole drawing that more tight.
Sure it takes a while longer, but usually it's really worth the results! Don't rush, it usually pays off in the end!

Thankyou for the advice Ursula! I think I have a 2H lying around so I may try it with a 2H and a 2B, same jump in different grades. Ill see how they turn out. Thank you heaps for your comment :)

First sketchbook stuff, then some anatomy studies (I think I understand the whole leg now) then life drawing stuff from my day at Julian Ashton (sorry for crappy quality, but Im learning to draw light lol). Ill update my digital stuff later (there isnt much)

Back from trip/days at work etc. Water colour stuff didnt turn out, much harder to concentrate on watercolour when you find out you are sharing space with a Red belly black snake.. but on the plus side, I have a new belt now :D beautiful creatures when they arent trying to kill you.. Going to do a still life of the skin as soon as it cures..

Also did a half rock/waterfall study after I got back, then make it into a sort of illustration.

Nice Jaik, didn't know you tried out the random character generator. I wouldn't worry too much about getting all of the details 100% correct, just try to invision the character in your mind before you start drawing.

For the height thing here is an EXAMPLE of what I had in mind when I put 8ft+ in the list

Good work either way man, you're producing a lot, keep it up.

Dennis: I see, I get it now, I think I was going about it all wrong, just adding in details as I went along, I think I'll try and visualise the next one a little better before I begin. I should have thought of that Loomis pic lol. Thanks for dropping by!

I've had a crappy couple of days, you know, get dem artist blues, dont feel like I'm improving fast enough, spread too thin, blah blah blah same story everyones heard a 100 times, guess itll pass eventually.

Not a heap of an update, lil bit of chow, pretty quick enviro and a still life using just lines, hoping this might improve my line work and cross hatching, practice practice practice...

Been thinking I'll only update every few days, going to give it a try, bit weird not posting every day though.. maybe ill just post the good things, not everything lol.. who knows.

I learnt the muscles of the arm, where they come from and where they go, statically anyway, still struggling with the different positions of the arm..
