This week: Environment of the Week!

This week's topic comes from Bag!
http://crimsondaggers.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=6141

Fire and projectiles rained from the sky from every direction, flying over the city's enormous walls as if insulting them, and finding their mark on the people and buildings below. The city's network of cobbled streets became a tributary of blood as more and more bodies fell to the enemy force's unrelentless onslaught. The guardians of the city were losing hope quickly, but all was lost when they heard the gates crash open. "The city has been breached! The city has been breached!"

Your task: Design the City Under Siege.

Guidelines:
  • The focus of the illustration must be the environment and its design
  • You may include characters or creatures but they must not be the focus
  • Photo textures, 3D, and traditional mediums are allowed.
  • Studies are recommended, but not required.
  • There is no restriction on image formats (horizontal, vertical, square).
  • Keep in mind you are not required to strictly stick to what is in the passage. It is more of a guide in terms of mood.
Rules:
  • You must post at least one WIP in the WIP thread to be accepted into the final poll.
  • Finals must be posted in the finals thread before the deadline.
  • Only ONE final entry please.
  • Sketches, WIPs, or rushed artwork will not be accepted into the poll.
  • No fanart. We want to see your original, unique interpretations!
  • Have fun!

Deadline is Sunday, March 29 @10pm GMT

Didn't like any of the thumbs particularly. While I was refining one I got another idea and went with that instead. Anyone have any good explosion reference? I looked for some but it was all not so great or it had flames in it

Ya that first one is pretty close! I looked at some pictures of mining explosions because I know that's pretty much exactly what I want but none of them had what I was looking for or they were low res

I kept working on this, finished it then realized that it doesnt really have anything to do with the description of the challenge, i wanted to make the aftermath of the siege, but i went too far.
I facepalmed really hard, but ah well i will still post it and be more careful to follow the brief next time.

Eduardo - It's in the same vein as the topic so I think it still counts! Don't forget to submit to the finals thread please :) The topic is open to interpretation in these challenges so no worries.
