#1
Hi, thanks for visiting.

This is my sketchbook, created to help me find my way of enjoy drawing again. I'm not nesseseruly looking for improving my skill, I just want to enjoy drawing again, wether it be personal artwork, commission, study or simply ugly doodle.
So here I am with some pictures. And that thing with mask is my mascot.

First of all why would drawing no longer be enjoyable ? You said something like art block have you work on that ? What the typical ''art block day'' look like for you?

You said you do commission for kid book? Do you think this is the market that make you the most involve with your work? Does it inspire you or does it give you creative block? Do you think your work is adapted to that public?

How did you fall in love with drawing in the first place? What was it that you enjoyed about drawing before? What is it about drawing that you can enjoy to day?

Why is drawing something you think you will enjoy doing in 2025? Something about being able to pay the bill and more(what is it?)

Why do you qualify your doodle as ugly?

Why do you limit your subject matter? Can it be to blame for the art block?

Why do you care about showing your art?

Sorry if those are hard question but it a serious topic you want to make something out of your art and if you don't at least address those question you are at the risk of loosing the point of why you were doing all this.

That attitude about not necessary looking to improve don't you think it a reason you are loosing that drive to draw? I am not saying to be the best. But it still a creative competitive field like anything. Sometime not getting any recognition it really get to us... it creatively kill us to want to do were best yet fall short to were own expectation or someone else expectation.

I can't speak for you on that. But for me if i don't learn or want to improve my skill i feel like i am stuck in the past... are you stuck in the past?

You are here now so let focus on that you don't have to answers any of those question but i encourage you to think about write some question you find you don't have the answers for down and try to work on finding a answers for those question and if you it not something you find you can find answers you can always ask for help.

First of all, glad to see you here! I saw you are very active on this forum and it's nice to see you here :3
I don't like the term "art block", but it is the one people usually use to describe similar situations, so I went with it.
For me "typical art block day" was the day I didn't even think or remember that I ever drew anything in my life. I spent about year and a half without ever picking up pencil and draw anything. I was burned out and was working in different speciality.
It ended up on it's own. I stumbled upon a little drawing course focused on human anatomy, it was a two week marathon, not enough to actually learn something, but enough to refresh some memories and stretch drawing muscles. It was fun and made me want to draw again. Since I returned to drawing after a long pause, my drawings were pretty bad, but I was having fun with them and that's what mattered to me.

I Honestly didn't like that job at all, but my boss was the huge factor. It was their first ever project and it was very disorganized. It also affected my skill dramaticaly, as I forgot how to draw more realistic pieces that I enjoy more (nothing bad with stylization, of course, I just don't want to do it myself, but I like to look at it from a side)

In the first place: I have (and had back than) my original characters and it was super fun to see them come to life on artworks. We also used to have a roleplay forums with friends and I was drawing some profile pictures with their OCs and it was just so so so cool. I was such a proud kid, someone enjoyed my portrait enough to use as an image of their oc! that was so awesome!
Today... as dramatic as it sounds, I don't know anymore. Whatever I do feels boring, tough, uninteresting, tediously. I can't find interest in anything.
I also loved doing studyies, like copies of photos or learning anatomy, but right now sleeping or watching youtube seems more fun then learning.

It is my way to barely pay the bills, yes, and I prefer to like what I do rather than force myself to work each day. I'm doing one last attempt before trying to look for different job (though I have zero idea what else to do, maybe switch to work as a cashier).
I also would like to enjoy drawing again to make pictures for myself, with my characters and so on.

Quote:Why do you qualify your doodle as ugly?
Because for me there is a significant difference between the work I was working hard on (first) and a silly doodle (second)m and, well, those are ugly :D maybe gun or charming, but ugly little things.

Those are often fast, silly, no referenes used, sometimes even using mouse and microsoft paint.

I'm not sure I got this one, sorry, can you expand on the question? I think I might misunderstood it.

Quote:Why do you care about showing your art?
I kinda don't, I don't upload about 80% of my artwork anywhere, that includes both personal artworks and commissions. I kust finish them, send them to customer if needed and then I can forget about that drawing ever existed. But I thought maybe starting showing my works again would help me return that spark of joy I was looking for.
Before last week I haven't upload anything since october, for example. And those breaks between uploads became routine for me.
Before that I reguraly uploaded my drawings because if you are silent for a long time, people will forget you, algoritm won't show your art and you won't find new customers.

I used to be the same when it came to improvement, I worked hard to become better, it was my goal at some point. Right now... honestly, no, I don't care if I  will forget color theory, anatomy, if noone would like my drawings because they will become "bad". If it would be fun to work on them - that's enough for me. Of course it would be cool if I'll find interes in improving again, buut in general, that's not the goal. It's like "I want to find a fun videogame, even if I'm not gonna be good at it", you know?
Though yes, learning is a good thing and I tottaly agree on that with you!
