Crabby dude

Hey daggers,
I brought this one to a finish some weeks ago, but it still doesn't stay out of my mind and demands attention. What would you guys do to make it shut up? ^^
I am rather happy with the silhouette and the stance allthough it is more or less a generic zergling/tyranid/crab-monster.

what would really help me is a comment on the basics (drawing, painting, perspective, etc.)

hi myriam,

it is directly behind the body of the thing, I changed the small bright shape on the leg, now it looks a bit more plausible. I will wait with uploading to see if there are more replies. also I changed the hue and saturation of the scythes, atm they look to much like metal.

I think you could do with creating a texture on the creature that creates a more 'organic' feel to it, at the moment it doesn't have any dirt in the cracks, (im assuming it would dwell on sand) any sand on it at all. It's all rather smooth, and a bit flat. Your lighting seems to be coming from above but the parts that would be in the most light are the same value or have very little difference to the parts in less light, I think adding that in could help with creating more of a 3D shape to the creature.

I second the invisible 4th leg that should be there somewhere. An option to think about if you're worried about it breaking the silhouette might be to push the atmo perspective on it and the furthest bits. The concept is very evenly detailed at the moment so this might not be what you want to do of course.

Hi Flo, this is a great piece, since it looks like a concept creature design I think its ok that the other leg its not showing since the 3d people will be able to model it by mirroring the thing, my main critique is the legs and how they look so spread out from the main body (I think they should be more to the center of gravity of the main shape), and the upper claws look a lot heavier so when it attacks the inertia will drive the whole body forward. Maybe if you make the arms (or whatever those things are called) less bulkier. Please take this critique with a grain of salt because I am learning too. Feel free to critique my critique, am i doing it right? English is not my main language.

Oh and another thing, try a little indication of the creatures environment just on the plane, is it rocky? leafy? sandy?, I think it will help because now it looks like the claw/legs will slip on that surface.
