A long cast study in limited palette, oils on canvas.

The next few are for my landscape painting class, most are alla prima, one sitting and oil on panel. 3.5 hours?

This was a longer piece, maybe double the time around 7-8 hours?

And I've started color studies for the same class as that cast study above.

Last but not least, a, digital, fantasy portrait.

It has been tooooo long. I'll keep coming back though. no matter what. at least i've been busy in my absence i guess.

I really miss going to oil painting classes where you test your mettle against other painters instead of fumbling around alone. Your figure studies are wonderful, both from model and from statuette. I also miss doing oil alla prima plein air, hahaha… I was young and thought nothing of hauling 30 odd pounds of supply and just paint. What kind of easel did you bring to landscape painting?

Nice color charts! They’re super useful for painters! I only have watercolor ones, do you think they can substitute for oil paint or do I have to make them all over again in oil?

Thanks meat!

I'm not sure about watercolor substituting for oil. To be honest, the charts I am doing are to see how to different pigments interact. I'd say it's just about knowing what colors can be made, and how so if you can see that from watercolor then I'd say it is useful.

Then again, if you're going to be painting in oil, it may just be as useful to go ahead and do them again and really drive the understanding home. ;)

Also, I'm using a guerilla paintbox and tripod. It's a clever little thing, though I wish it were a bit more sturdy.

If you miss it, go do it! :) :) :)

My absence has been long, but I've been diligent as much as possible. I know it's a huge update, but I really wanted to shake the life into this sketchbook again without spamming dozens of posts in a row. My next update will probably be after Christmas, because of all the traveling. Really starting to feel like I can paint, but now I gotta work on painting cool shit! everything above is traditional, oils or graphite.

The amount and quality of your work looks awesome. And the fact that this knight helmet has a cheetos bag next to it with magic the gathering cards is not only genius, but it makes it look like more fun. Lol

Hey thanks Bookend, glad you like it!

It's a New Year! Which means more new stuff lol. Idk, I'm throwing up some sketches, and going to be spending the week working on some studies for an illustration.

Awesome job with the oils! Are you reading Alla Prima by chance?

Richard Schmid's book? No, I've checked it out of the library once, and my painting professor references it occasionally...but I've never been able to afford it. :/ What makes you ask?
