A couple studies from the stream tonight for this week's Bloodsports challenge.

Finished commission and some Bloodsports studies

So I talked to my parents about it and basically, if I'm not able to support myself on my own by this coming august solely on art then I have to apply for college. I'm nervous about it, but it's a deadline, I like deadlines. I'm determined to work my ass off.
Pangolin/Rhino (still working on a name) and the figure I'm going to use to place all my armor designs on.

Cutting it close with this deadline D:

Hey, what's up! Great armor studies! Make sure you really tackle that lions head and corresponding bits of metal on the chest piece! That's a great observation waiting to be made. Also, on those designs, I think you've got some nice basic forms to work with, at this point you need to start articulating the shapes and thinking of ways to go beyond the reference. Keep working hard!

Thanks Corey, I never got to finish the bloodsports though unfortunately :/
Streaming in a few minutes!

Going to get back into the studying groove tomorrow hopefully. I really need to work on my values :/

Some Gargoyle fan art and a Value/Foreshortening Study. I plan on just studying tomorrow so hopefully I'll have more then just this for everyone :)

A work in progress, I really am trying to improve how dynamic my pieces are and my composition and I'm hoping that this will help. Any crits would be very appreciated :)

The easiest improvement to make in terms of composition is to watch your rule of thirds. just slap your focal point over one of the crosses, and that will help a lot:
Also watch out for tangents. [link] I see some touching edges along the shield (horizon and spear), the sword hilt, the loin cloth. Also add a reason for dynamism. making something dynamic is a very difficult thing to do in terms of abstract concept. adding an actual 'reason' or 'goal' for an action will create more tension. for example: "two guys are running flat out, seemingly racing each other." cool. But then if you add "... and they're like 5 feet from the finish line." it makes it more exciting. please take this advice with a grain of salt though, I only learned all this stuff like a month ago

Really impressive progress, Forest. The anatomy stuff is getting really good, keep pushing it all!

Thanks for the critique Beefy :) I was actually trying for the rule of thirds but with color and value instead. However I like your cropped version a lot :p I don't know, I'll need to give it some thought ha.
Thanks Tooth :) I was lurking on ImagineFX's forums and saw they do challenges on there so I decided to join since I have time and I had an idea right away. But before I worked on that I did this self portrait I'm super proud of, but shouldn't be because I'm not the best! >.< |
