Nice mood & expression.. I probably would either narrow the cutout a bit, or put some elements in, which lead the eye to the character.. about 30% to the sides is just reduntant information.. other than that, awesome stuff! :)

Amazing stuff here Jake! I really liked how the tavern guy turned out!
It's awesome that you are focusing on the illustration itself, the character, background, mood and story.. I really shows.
Also, I want to see that guy with the cape in the sun finished :D haha
Keep upp!!

Its been a long time since i came here, since i already see most of your illustrations on facebook haha. I loved that Aragorn illustration you did, its practically flawless!
For the one with knight trapped in that air current, i also like it, but i would love to see more movement. Like that air grip is really moving fast.
Also, cool sketches, keep them coming!

Heya Jake!
I've totally been lurking around your sketchbook for a long time but I realized that I've never dropped a comment! You're a big inspiration to me, kicking my ego's butt with your killer progression. You did a fantastic job on the Ascend piece, very harmonious palette. Quite interesting to see how you solved rendering the air. It's definitely portfolio worthy.
I'm not sure if this critique is valid, but I think you probably should pay attention to softness and sometimes contrast. Though I do see that you restricted the deeper shadows to the focal point in your tavern piece, it just feels that some objects lose their terminator line. Might be that values are too similar in certain areas due the broadness of your value's progression, making it a bit soft.
Looking forward to seeing your next piece mate.
