I did some studies last week, gathering reference images and such, thinking. Hoping to get some thumbnails up tonight of the actual illustration! Gonna try starting the painting on Thursday :)
I chose option 2, and decided to redesign John Snow as a samurai. Having him guard a wall, but in an Asian culture setting. Thinking of making Ghost a nine-tailed fox, but still on the fence about it.
Also; this is my first post here! I'm a tiny bit nervous, haha...
These are all pretty rough, but I appreciate any feedback! Thanks so much for hosting this!
Aaand here are some thumbnails! I'm leaning more toward the top left and the middle, though I do also like the one on the far right...
Also picked out a couple color schemes~

Hi Asa! Welcome to the Crimson Daggers! I hope you'll have a meaningful stay!
As per you first post, and your first work in progress for the Crimson Crucible, you hit the ground running! Very interesting designs!
Can't wait to see more!
If you are reading this, I most likely just gave you a crappy crit! What I'm basically trying to say is, don't give up!

HEEEEYYYY :D Haha, I've been thinking about this for weeks! Last week was a week from hell--not only did I have to meet an unexpected deadline, I also had a funeral to attend, and then I had no food D: Life just will not give me a break!
I'll do my best to make it though! I can work pretty quickly, but we'll see how I can do on a tight turnaround, haha.

This is a cool idea. I would go with the comp you're leaning toward as well. Your studies are great too, though it doesn't look exactly like John Snow, it still feels like him, if that makes sense. Hope to see more!

A rough sketch from last night, and some very very rough colors I worked out this morning... now I have to go to work!
I hope it can withstand the flames! Everyone's art here is so wonderful, I can only hope to be half as good as what I've seen so far!

updaaaaayt! cool to see progress. Right now the perspective of Jon doesn't quite match the scene. If you didn't want to change Jon, maybe bring ghost down a little to match his ground plane, and have that edge a bit flatter to us than it is at the moment. Also tangent at tip of stone lantern and that edge. Make the lantern overlap a bit more. Good luck!!

Thanks so much Amit! I always have trouble with perspective, it's one of my issues. I'll see what I can do with John, but I'll definitely move Ghost down now that I'm seeing the perspective problems! Darn tangents, hiding from my sleep-addled eyes!
Really appreciate your crtis Amit, thank you :)

Wolf looks pretty cool, has some neat colors. Amit already covered the issues, so heres a video if you wanna set up quick perspective grids. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9PIUG2fjcQ
Also I know perspective can be daunting, but its absolutely necessary for you to set it up quite early on.
Also legs are hard, do a few studies of boots to get a hang on them, and be sure to check the relative proportions to the rest of the body.

@ Legion Brewer: Thanks! Redesigns are difficult that way, haha.
@ cracked skull: Thanks so much for that vid! I need to learn to start breaking out the perspective lines in the beginning before I jump in too far, haha. I did some super rough lines, but that video makes things so easy! I'll def take your advice on the boots when I get a chance tomorrow, and I adjusted the proportions a bit. Thanks for the crit!
Worked a couple hours tonight. I'm usually really controlled with my work, but I'm trying to be looser and not so stuck in the little things. I chose a limited pallet to help with that a little.
Thanks so much for all the kind words everyone! I've never been in an online place full of such kind people before! :)
Lets see if I can finish up by tomorrow... if not, this was stilll great fun, and I learned a few things! (start earlier for one, haha. Dang life getting in the way!)
