Welcome back. Yeah, we all hafta pay attention to 'burn-out' and taking a break is fine as far as I'm concerned. I've done it enough in my life. Your last concept is very good

Thanks Jephyr ,thanks for the kind words!
Here are some more exploration sketches. Gonna have to fix the armor / clothing layering, current setup makes no real sense. Also dont like the saddle and leash on the birb atm.

Nice job on the faces!!!
Seeing a key shot of the bird in motion would be super cool. I want to try something similar, but having people riding animals/creatures is so difficult =.=

Loving the latest update, great character design and line work. Looking forward to seeing more of it developed!

Thanks Crowbit for coming by and with your suggestion about the bird running in action.
It is actually really hard to draw but Im sure with your smooth poses and gestures you can definetly draw something cool! Also thanks a lot CGmyth for the kind words, Im always impressed with the amount of work you produce when I occasionally the forum. With the recent update I tried to sketch some thumbnails and to fix some proportions and designs. Grayscale comps from scratch are still hard af to do.. They are definetely on my bucket list to improve in the future.

Some more sketches & thumbnails.
Value grouping in combination with shape design is still hard af to figure out.

Isn't the point of exploration to iterate? I feel like you need way more of those black thumbnail.
Really give yourself the chance for juicy idea to materialize.

For the thumbnails I feel the top one works better as it breaks the symmetry more, the bottom one looks much too stiff in comparison. Very much looking forward to seeing more developments!

Cool! I definitely agree with Cgmythology on this one! Top one is a lot more dynamic and value wise I think it's a stronger composition having the mountains in the back be a much lighter value. As for a pose, I would try and make it just a bit more dynamic. Personally I would explore if she could hold her weapon (axe? Spear? halberd?) a little bit further away from her body, and I would also make it taller or bigger.
Something about it being so close and parallel to her, as well as the same height stiffens it a bit for me, and I'm reading it as if she's getting a cold wind in her back and she's freezing up a bit from it. Unless that's the idea of course, then full speed ahead :D Keep it up

- CG, thanks dude for the feedback looking back I also prefer the first version.
At the moment Im just trying ideas out in fictional settings for potential scenes. - Maxilla also thanks a lot for the feedback, I definetly agree that the pose looks stiff. My lack of gesture and anatomy / figure drawing skills is bothering me a lot at the moment since it clearly shows :/ But im going to try out your suggestion when I come back to the thumbnail. I have been working on this thumbnail way too long considering how bad it turned out. Drawing sitting people is super hard + nailing perspective with a good sense of scale and depth. Values are also way too goofy and lack a visual read, for now I call it a day and come back to it this weekend.

Its been a while since last post, here is a small sketch of a character idea I want to explore further.
So far im not too happy with the weapon form and function ( particulat how its hold ), gonna fix this soon.

Nice character design with your latest, hoping to see it developed further!

Thanks CG!
So, recently I went pretty deep into the whole design rabbit hole to prepare myself for a upcoming art test. Design on first glance can be simple in theory,- yet also very complex at the same time when you try to put it to practice. For now I try to develop a type of checklist for my own workflow that follows stuff like hirachy of big / medium / small shapes, flow in between them, negative shapes , high detail frequency vs low detail frequency etc. In the end knowing these rules is fine and dandy but to create appealing looking sketches while respecting the design rules is very hard on top of drawing accurate and precise.

Did you ever consider taking a composition class? Doing a art test surely mean your weakest fundamental will be your Achille heel. Not only that it mean if they see weakness that most likely they will put you in the maybe pill and that not where you want to be .
I am gonna say it because i been (taking art test) but i don't see enough work in here to believe your taking this seriously. You should be posting everyday ideally but let say once per week would already be a great improvement. Last thing i want for an artist is to go take a test and have there ego bruise it not a nice experience. So i advise on a serious approach and real commitment.Sadly those are hard to quantify comment that why you need professional assessment of you skill to understand your readiness. Just imagine the level of feedback you can get if you just double the posting and you still not even getting professional feedback. Better to take it here than most place that for sure... I don't know if you are around artist most of the time of the week but if not well it as to change you need a support system specially if you don't take class. Those are some of my recommendation.

Very nice work with your latest sketch. Pose seems very natural and it has an excellent silhouette. I hope to see it in color!
