Monkeybread's Dribblings
You have poles this short in NZ? Then what's even the reason of having them if people can reach then for the ground? I mean the one in BG is ok but the one in foreground is like 2,5 meaters tall.

You misunderstood my explanation. Anyway next time I do a one hour sketch, I'll be sure to do a scott robertson perspective construction and draw a grid and measure it all to perfection. I do agree with you, I just don't give a shit.

There's a gallery of photos of Syria, before and after the bombings. Used to have some beautiful architecture and then just - nothing. Rubble and ruin. Great study material... Terrible wars, but great study material >.>

@RP Thanks! Yeah, amongst others, Allepo is a world heritage listed city.....or should say was...

Back on the study train. I'm probably moving away from photobashing unless needed for client work because my painting skills, especially figures, suck gonads. Plus I'm realising I probably prefer painting over most other processes involving 3D, photobash etc.

Retrospective, some old studies earliest from a few months ago and sketches , I haven't posted here (I think, apologies if double posting), and a few new ones. Will be more consistent as I can.

Cool figure studies, would even make a nice poster to hang on a wall :)
Very good result for a 20 minute rock study, I might try this approach next time I need to paint smth relevant.
And the camel is sweet, vibrant colors and I have a crush on camels :)
Last sketch is very rough sure, reminds me of "drawing on the right side of the brain" stuff, but the idea of a girl bathing with dragon is interesting for an illustration. Oh wait... does she have a 2nd face on her hair? scary....:)

@Neo. Thank you! I have fallen off the figures for a bit while trying to catch up on work, will get back to it. Definitely try the silhouette/clipping layer approach, makes things easier! Love camels :)

Process stuff for recent client piece. Once I had an approved thumb, I used Daz, Blender and then overpainted.

What I realised in this one, is that I don't want to rely on too much 3D except for very simplified layout and lighting, or perhaps for doing procedural replication that is way easier in 3D.
I also definitely want to learn to paint figures properly without 3D rather than rely on it as a shortcut. I had to paint over the whole thing anyway so it was kinda pointless.

I have been in a pretty big exploration phase with my workflow for the last year which I feel has made my work inconsistent and not that good. I feel that this experience has been good for me to realise that I really do enjoy fully painting or mostly painting everything from scratch and I think consistency and improvement should reappear back into my work. So I'm looking forward to knuckling down and seeing where things go now.

Forgot to add this one. Finished cover art for an RPG rule book manual.
Took WAY too long. Basically four illustrations in one and full of figures and faces...aaaaaaaaah.
I'm an ass for suggesting it.

Oh yea, i hate Daz3d, i have it and the figures always end up so lumpy and boring looking... but accurate, for the most part; Scared to delete it though, because i could need it one day...

Great you're still going hard at it Amit, mad respect

Thanks for stopping by my SB! Thought I would drop in and check yours out.

Clever to use 3d programs to figure the scene out. I've played with this idea but seeing how it worked well for you is encouraging. Also I really liked the strong orange light against the dark castle and sky you had in some of the earlier images, and would've liked to see that carried to the end.

Vurt cover looks cool too. If I had an rpg group and the time that image would totally make me want to check it out.

I love your enviros Amit, beautiful work. I've been browsing your EDR course, looks the business, I think I will work through it in the next few months myself, thanks for putting up such awesomeness mate : ).

And your 3D stuff came out very nice, it's great for setting up perspective I find. Although for figures I've found that I still need to do an awful lot of overpainting.

Looking forward to more boss!

@Fedo. Thanks man! Yeah I think Daz is great to stick into 3D and get perspective and lighting info from, but I think I prefer to draw using that as ref instead of overpainting now.

@ThereisNoJustice.  Cheers dude, I agree with you, the colours turned out a little too washed out. Learnings for next time :)

@ArtLoader. Thanks so much Art. DO it and let me know how it goes...heck post your stuff in the threads if you do, I'm still subscribed to it :) Bingo on the use of 3D for figures, unless one goes whole hog and does it mostly all in 3D I guess. :)

Not much to update, just some more studies I squeezed in. Need to do mooooore

I lied. I just finished this...or at least submitted this as a final for a wraparound book cover. TOOK AGES and so many changes. Hope it's done.

Wow man, your figure work is really beginning to take off! That last set of studies really showcases a ton of character, and more accuracy than previously denoted.

I'm in love with that wraparound too. As always, your sense of color is ace! I want to explore that world. Haha. The author's lucky you were able to bake some monkey bread for 'em :D.

@Einver...haha thanks! It's the tastiest bread in town, full of monkey goodness :P

Latest client stuff. I swore off the 3D and lol, back into 3D. Think I am getting a bit of a better handle on how to integrate, definitely less is more.

Thumbs, with some shitty paintover
