Some more landscape studies - the first set were 30-40 minutes each. The second set is a colouring / time of day experiment - it's just a palette change though, next time I do one of these I'll try and address the position of the sun / moon, shadow and lighting direction etc.

Also some more figure studies, again around 30 minutes each.

Beautiful you have a great ears to pick up on what i am saying but not only that you act on it instead of only absorbing you apply it also.

I got a question since i am seeing 2 kind of different interest(environnement and character) are you more into illustration(story telling) or concept art(design)?

And an other question So far are you trying to turn what your doing into a specialisation or are you just enjoy the journey as an hobby?

Darktiste: Good questions!

My instincts probably lean towards illustration. Concept art is something I'm planning on studying at some point though - rapid iteration, short hand ways of putting scenes together, mechanical design etc.

My goal with starting this sketch thread was just to be able to look back in a year or so and be able to see a definite improvement. As for specialising... I make a living doing pixel art as it's the one thing I found I could do to a decent enough standard to get paid (mainly because you can get away with a lot working at low resolutions and in forced perspective). I'd like to be able to branch out and take on more kinds of work which could be anything - concept art, illustration... I used to do self published comics as a hobby so doing comics again at some point is a long term goal, but I haven't really thought about whether that's something I'd want to do professionally or keep it as a hobby.

If I'm still mainly doing pixel art however many years down the line though, I'd be happy if all this study helped improve my work there.

Here's another landscape lighting experiment and some technical figure studies. I was thinking I could easily keep working away from references doing figure studies indefinitely refining them without really learning anything - so I'm going to try and look in to skeletal and muscular structures and forms for a bit.

Here's a simplified rotation study for the spine, ribcage and pelvis. It's a little wonky but it's only supposed to be an exercise. I should probably have tried starting with something simpler like a single box...

You gotta mix it up mutley for your anatomy stuff.Copy vs Inventing. I am saying this with in mind that those are copy of reference.But i saw that got some character stuff that ain't pure copying maybe perhaps push your inventive stuff in regard to gesture that help establish a narrative by associating an emotion to a gesture you get more than just the dynamic fighting stuff your range of emotion you can express become broader. You can also work on ''extreme foreshorting'' gesture such as sitting and laying down.You could work on facial expression outside of the screaming and menacing face.

Here's some invented figure studies centered around figures at rest - especially sitting and compressed forms. Extreme foreshortening is something I really struggle with so I'll look in to that over the next week or so too.

Thanks Tank Rat. Here's some more of the landscapes!

I'm still developing the style of these, trying to find a good balance between minimalism and stripping things down without them ending up too mechanical or sterile.
