I find the thumb to be more suitable to be describe as a boxy shape before the first phalange.For the rest of the finger going toward the exterior the first section before the first bending the form remind me to be somewhat of a boxy shape but rounded for the second section the shape look more like a truncated cone with a soft transition and for the last section the finger tips i find them to have more the shape of the end section of the thumb.Of course they assume this kind of shape mostly will in resting position.The greatest service you can do yourself is to take photo of your hand or to observe it before drawing since it something you can always reference when in doubt.
