Hello john,

I would love to learn from you.
Here is the link to my sketchbook,

http://crimsondaggers.com/forum/thread-952.html

Some of my main problems at the moment are translating what i've learned to my illustrations
and having an overall cleaner more polished result.

I'm looking forward to see how the mentoring projects turn out. also, pancakes!

Hey John.

I've been following you and you streams for a while now and participated in your ctitique sessions as well. I am very happy that you do this and i would like to take part in your mentoring group.

Right now i am studying industrial design, but i really want to do industrial design for the entertainment industry, which means i have to get much better at everything. I have a very cartoony style, i am horrible with color, and my anatomy is lacking terribly as well. Basically i have to improve all across the map. So i would be terribly thankful for this opportunity.

Lots of awesome people offering these classes now <3.

I'm Camille, I'm 17, I live in the Netherlands and I want to get better because I want to make this my job.
I'm a dagger for like a year now, and mostly self taught. Most of the time I don't really know what to do with studies and this class would really help me because I'm kinda stuck at the moment.

Hey John,

I just recently joined the forums here. I'm a self taught artist with the exception of, for a year now, I've been taking some classes part time. I really have benefited from the instruction a great deal.

I've never really gotten studies. Studies are by far what I struggle with the most. I'm never really sure what to do other than set a timer, draw and hope I get better - I felt if I had some direction I could focus instead of flounder.

I, like everyone else, hope the dice picks me! If not, I'm so happy the lessons will be shared so that I can try and learn.

My DA page is http://rashka-jm.deviantart.com/

Thank you for your consideration!

I would love to apply but I have no portfolio available to view. Over the next few months I'll work on one and apply if/when you are taking on more students.

He John,

I really appreciate that you take the time for mentoring! I'm in for the class, would totally help to step my game up.
i struggle with a lot of things like environments behind characters, composition, landscapes and lots more. the main reason i would like to participate is the reason that i want to go freelance, because there are no jobs in my region and i don't want to stop drawing and simply go work in a factory to earn my meals :) so any help to improve is more than welcome.

Hey there John! I'm an aspiring concept artist training entirely on my own, but I've been having trouble translating the work I do in my studies to my original work. There's a very visable quality drop. I'd really like some professional advice on what I can do to fix my work process and make some real progress!

My DA: Http://nadesican.deviantart.com
My portfolio (essentially a highlights reel of my studies) http://scottforand.daportfolio.com/
And my Conceptart.org sketchbook (all my art since I got serious!): http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread....-of-a-Noob

Hope the dice favor me!

I'm a self taught illustrator almost hitting his first year of taking this seriously. I've gotten a lot of progress over the last 11 months, but I want the next year to be far better. The only way to do that is within myself, but it is possible for outside assistance. And teachings such as this, direct ones, have always been the most helpful to me.

Best wishes to this whole experiment John. Either way, I'll still see you around. Stay sharp Dagger.

Hi John

I'd love to learn from you. I remember you gave me once a crit on a painting and that was highly informative.
So far I've been practising mainly on my own, now is the time to open up on other peoples ideas, influences and opinions. I'd like to add something new into the process of learning art.

When it comes to writing about myself. I've been a bit of a creeper scavenging nuggets of wisdom from around the web. I'm out of uni now, trying to hook up with some more sexy commissions.

My folio is here:
www.sarmati.daportfolio.com

I'll be restarting a sketchbook thread soon. Recently I've been doing lots of traditional sketches, but I don't have a scanner, to post them up.

What I would like most is to see improvement in my designs ( character and creatures ) I applied for art school 6 years ago, but never learned the fundamentals... so now that i've finished school i'm stuck between two walls. Now that i'm doing self studies it's become a bit better and I made some progress, but i still lacks basic information and/or dynamic stuff which is the reason why I can't find a job in this industry. I really REAAAALLY! want to become a freelance illustrator or work at gaming companies, and I would do anything it takes! That's why it would be great if you could help me out and accept me in your team :)
Thanks for this opportunity!

Hi John,

I'd really like to be included in your mentoring program. I fell I'm sort of missing out on something with my studies and with someone like you doing the mentoring hopefully i'll get over the standstill i'm in. I fell kind of bad for coming here after applying to another mentor, but hey, you can't blame a guy for trying, right ? I feel that this mentoring project is a once in a lifetime thing and it would be a shame to miss out on it.

I've tried improving my techniques with tons of studies but i'm still missing that spark that I had few years back in highschool where I had a arts teacher that guided me. Because he was a painter and not a conceptartist, per say, I picked up a lot of things that I wasn't even aware of in the first place. I'm not saying that the last years have been a total stop, but i'm not quite feeling the "level up" i've been hoping for all this time. That's why I think that having you as a mentor, and having a structured learning system would widen my perspective on the whole art thing and I'll finally be able to hop over my standstill.

As for the future, untill now I've been determined as hell to finish college and land a gaming industry job as soon as I can, but a thought keeps creeping at the back of my skull that i'm just gonna work for a architecture firm and eventually after a few years I'll be a architect myself... and i'll live a boring life hating my job. Not that it's so bad to be a architect but i'd dissapoint a 5 - 7 year old version me, that thought that I'll allways be drawing awesome monsters and dragons. Basically that's what's cool about working in the gaming industry you get to be a kid at heart for ever, while still getting a paycheck. ( yes its from the other thread, I seriously hate writing ; hopefully If you pick me i'll show you that I won't take for granted all the things you will teach us )

Hey John!
I am very interested in joining this class as I feel my art has been suffering lately and become stagnant because I didn't have a strong foundation in fundamentals. I've never taken a course or anything of that nature so I'm mostly self taught but I feel like that caused me to develope alot of bad habits that I'm not sure how to fix. I can sketch characters all day but when it comes to coloring them or putting them in an environment, I start to struggle. If you look through my portfolio on Deviantart I'm sure you'll see what I mean.
Also, while I've been doing studies, applying them is still a bit of a mystery to me. I'm not sure exactly how to apply them and I have a feeling I'm just doing them on the wrong things. A large gap is missing from my skill set and I believe your class would really help me close that gap up so I can continue to grow. I may joke around alot but I've been drawing since before I can remember and I take it very seriously. Art is what I what to do with my life and to be able to support myself doing it is the dream (as I'm sure it is for everyone applying to you class). Also, I'm a hard worker!
I am a struggling little flower. Won't you please water me?
