Hey I'd like to thank everyone in the crit section for all the advice on this piece! I'm gonna pretty it up a lot more tomorrow, and balance the colors, it's gone through a lot of lasso tools and transforms, and I know it's a weird piece, but i love it, I genuinely would hang it on my wall (As narcissistic as that sounds lol.)
But I would only say that about maybe .01% of my stuff, so it counts for me at least.
If you have any suggestions, take a stab at it, you can find the reference I used here in the cri section
Need to get back to studies, gonna try to push this Watts study a little more tomorrow, as there is a lot more information to get from it! And of course lots of anatomy studies soon, gotta get on the ball with that
As i got up this mornin i felt pretty crummy because my latest piece was a flop, not because I didn't expect that, but because I knew it would be. And now I begin my manifesto of the conspiracy against me in art... just kidding lol
But yea, as the day went on, i just kept drawing and I think i worked consistently more today than I have in years. I maybe spent 3 hours on not drawing activities, and maybe an hour and a half eating/showering. I need to cut them showers down to like 15 minutes or less because going in there for forty minutes isn't doing me any favors, even though it feels great in this cold weather.
But you know what made me feel good was as flawed and as guerrilla (koala) as my approach to art is, over time it just adds up you know. Like I don't do everything 100% by the book (I barely do it 60% by the book,) but I don't care, and i will continue to force it until it just works. Like my sketches are on the brink of being cool I feel, but not there yet, but very close.
It's like everything I do is the wrong way until it's awesome, then my way was the right way because it worked. Not in the most efficient fashion, but in a working fashion. In the future if someone asks me how to improve at art, I'll just tell them, "Do everything they tell you not to do, but do it better than they do it."
Okay, so today i thought, well since no one likes the way i draw women, i better learn how to draw them so people will like them! I want people to give me moneys lol, so i decided... I need to be able to draw 100% accurate stuff, so I'm gonna do 100 drawings of figures that are accurate down to the overlay, and 100 faces that are accurate down to the overlay, and that should do it! That should get my observation skills outta this hole I'm in. Let's get it right y'all!! And never do what they tell you to do, EVER!
I'm gonna study Adam Hughes and Wes Burt and Stanley Lau and all those other artists who I don't care for because people seem to like them! I need $$ I need to get out of here, this home situation ain't cuttin it! let's get it right! nobody wants to see them downiezzz, but you know what, once I do get people to like my art, I will draw them downies because I love em so... lol
In response to his critique: Great points, I agree with everything, but you really have a way of giving a crit that at no point comes across as harsh or vicious, it's very gentle, like how I imagine you are as a person. Very caring and sensitive. It has it's pros and cons, like anything else. Thanks though, for real; It's amazing you share your work with us and I am very grateful for it!
Anyways, I took another look at his stuff and heard him mention the Reilly rythms, which is something I'm really interested in, especially since Watts teaches his students this. Gonna be learning that and trying a new approach to drawing which is tracing the shapes on the photo and breaking down what I'm looking at and drawing it upside down. So... stuff I'm doing may look rougher or weird, but I'm really trying to push myself and try new and better ways of measuring and getting stuff down right
alright, so tried a buncha diff stuff today, like that Walent guy's style of rendering, but the more i try the more I notice he's in his own kinda world. The Reilly Rythms is just what i needed, a way to steady my hand and let me measure without feeling too tied down to rules or get bored by using my pencil or finger to measure or w/e. Just gotta do more of these, get the hang of it!
I wish i was a little bit taller
I wish I was a Baller
I wish I had a girl who looked good
i would call her
I wish I had a rabbit in a hat
with a bat
and a 64 Impala
Aight, so , went to town today did some caricatures, made agood bit o cash, and will be postin some more better stuff tom. lol So, little under the weather right now, can't type right, right, right, you now how christmas eve is hahahah
Umm, here are some studies by some dude named Xi Ding and this amazing guy named ELGIN SUBWAY SURFER BOLLING, pretty cool stuff, i really want to people laugh with my caricatures one day, but yea gonna go downtown and do a lot more of this on Saturdays since there is this markety thing downtown and today no one was there and I still made some cash, so It's all good!
that's right I post erryday because that's what i do, can always count on me, that's right
if you're eyes are burning then yes that's a very good sign! be sure to put some bleach on them to help the effect :P.
Nice updates dude, I love the Gandhi caricature.
about your figures anatomically they look amazing, but they look very stiff to me almost like an action figure especially the bat girl one, aside from that looking good keep it up dude :).
Hey,
Significant improvement from the beginning, it's awesome to see your hard work! Really good to see you've taken the critique offered and significantly improved your line work and head construction.
Regarding the studying I would suggest the Pomodoro method: doing 30 mins focused studying and taking 5 mins break to reward yourself. You'll find your concentration will improve rather than just mindlessY sitting at a desk for ages.
TRIGGERED: Thanks so much! those two figures are Art Germ studies, but yea they're stiff, that's why I'm doin 100, to get rid of all those pesky problems!
Vic: NO!!
Mannion: Oh the beginning? phew, three years back? Hmmm, yea i do that method actually, specially I have to get up and pee pee so much lol, and well just more stuff wow I'm tired
Focus more on shape than shading, goal for tomorrow
74 faces left ( don't count the ones on paper.)
the ones that are colored or greyscale never take me more than half an hour to execute those things. The line drawings actually take me the most time since I'm measuring a lot more
