Fedodika the Koala
Hey Fedo you're like some kind of unstoppable art machine dude! They way you keep grinding is truly inspirational.

I'm loving the loose painterly style on the guy's head with the helmet - nice work :).

And I like the way you've captured the 3D form on the naked old guy with the beard.

Keep it going my friend!

Artloader: haha thanks man, art is all I've done for the past three and half years, all day every day like a job, with no vactions or weekends lol

This was a lot of fun to paint, but I feel like I use this color scheme too much, like a bright white hair with some blues mixed in, gotta try somethin different for the next piece hehe

Hey, I love your stuff! The witch's expression is so creepy and awesome! I can see you are very detail oriented.
The monkey is also creepy and yet it looks like it could exist somewhere in the world. I think you've managed to capture the mood of this scene perfectly. Keep it up!

Alex: Thanks glad you like it!!

So spent a little more time on the witch thing, it isn't too much different but there are some things i had to sort out with the overall finish. I also did an artgerm study again, and some old lady hands which was fun, though I didn't spend more than 2 hrs on either of these. I did a 1 hr boug study but it looks terrible so I'll post it later in a batch where it's a small thumbnail and you can't tell how bad it is ;)

Gettin back to sketching, was doing some PAINFUL observation studies today, turned out looking terrible. This first post is evidence of that, just NOT accurate lol. Gonna get around to drawing a lot more, gotta try to stay in that mindset...

You can make up all the Bullshit you want but EVERY little bit o this is bein tracked.

Heey, So for my next piece I have some thumbnails here. I'm doing it on the story "The Shadow over Innsmouth" by Lovecraft, and I think I'll do every story I have in this little book I have next to me since these pieces are relatively successful on Deviantart (but a tragedy on arstation lol, i think I got 1 like.)

The top left is the idea I think is the most expressive, it's of this old fisherman telling tales of the fish people who wander up on land in the middle of the night. Halfway through he starts freaking out and tells the narrator who's interrogating him to leave the town. I'd have a light shadow cast on him an him refraining in terror with a morbid expression, similar to the intense expression from the last piece.

The top right is the last Idea I had and I think the weakest of him, pointing towards the ocean warning him. The bottom widescreen one is the more ambitious one, but it definitely has a solid narrative in my opinion. It's basically the old man telling his stories with the liquor in his hand and the narrator taking notes on a dreary overcast beach (which these all would feature.)

I really really like the first Idea, but I don't want to draw the fish people because IDK I feel like drawing the monster in every Lovecraft story would get redundant, I kinda wanna shoot for the realism element, you know the people, the scientists, the university students. It gives a broader picture of the story. Like with Cthulu, most people only know its about a tentacle dude, but you know, they wouldn't know anything about the deep backstory and the scientists and people involved, which is the other 99% of the story lol.

Anyways, lemme know which one you think, but if no one reads this I'll prolly go with the top right one, or maybe I'll come up with something while I sleep. Also I'm doing about an hour and half of gesture drawing a day now, and I just feel like it's a waste of time to scan those in since they're nothing special or interesting. Maybe if I get one interesting I'll post it but until then I'm doing those until further notice.

I do
20 mins of feet, heads, hands, and then figures, and boy I do it totally different than how I used to. Drawing is like a game now, like how quick can you show volume, form, gesture, all that stuff, it's kinda fun actually!

This sketchbook is beggining to smell of fish ;P.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tTHn2tHhcI

Ooh shadow over Insmouth that was a fantastic story.

I'd say the first one, though I think it might be a good idea to do a few more thumbnails, myself I think the most important part of that story was the paranoia from him and the townsfolks who looked human but no quite so.

Reply
Triggered: Hey thanks man! That's a funny video lol, I thought a bit what you said about the paranoia thing, so I came up with these thumbs:

So i didn't draw much I'm gonna show today, it was mostly on paper, but i did a couple more thumbnails and I found another one I liked. It's basically the bigger one in this post, where the narrator is peering out the peep hole on the door and there is like some cool dappled light going on to raise the tension, along with a nervous expression and a camera angle facing up.

Might draw it out tomorrow, more than likely, need to work more... owell it's tough!

aight, today got really pissed off trying to come up with a composition for this, and I even went in DAZ3D and had a few epiphanies... DAZ3D is a really really cool free software that just opens up SOOOO many possibilities, but man does it have some limitations. It won't get the anatomy to look "good" just "correct" and all too often it looks, well not that inspiring. Another limitation which i suppose on my part is when I drew my figure from DAZ i had it in a dynamic angle, but my brain just drew it in a normal kind of flat angle.

But getting pissed off is good, it's where you learn the most!

Need to study some tough perspective stuff...

Anyways, I got an idea while brushing my teeth tonight I'm gonna try tomorrow, it'll be very illustrative. We'll see what happens ;)

I like the colors on your most recent one! Looking forward to seeing it finished.

If you're having trouble drawing/painting from observation, it'd be good to really get a solid footing there before too much imaginative work. For starters, I'd say to think more using angles while drawing and set up proportions correctly before anything else. Your drawings are a bit cartoonish right now (which might be your goal), but if you'd like to achieve realism then it all starts with the structure.

Keep pushing man!

Nick: Lol we have the same first name! Yea, Im just tryina figure stuff out rn, in all honesty i shoulda traced the figure from Daz3d instead of trying to draw it as a different post, my mind just put it in normal perspective. Thanks btw!

Sooo, this colored piece I'm not sure how i feel about; I know the anatomy's all busted up but it has a strong narrative, so I'll post it on DA and see what happens, but until then I'm just gonna move on to the next thing. Also did some stylized nudies, since, well, if I could do anything it'd just be draw neked ladies huehue. But my ambitions go much further than just that, as Rigney once spoke, "Ya can't just draw naked ladies all the time."

SO I had this idea that i could do a quick composition, then look for weaknesses then patch it up. Did this first thing, then said huh, i stink at snow enviros, so i did one from the mind, then did a noah bradley study. We'll try it again tomorrow, since i'm reading "the mountains of madness" by HPL rn, and it has a very snow mountain thing goin on

Looks like you're working hard on your studies, the quick environment ones are looking good. If you want to delve deeper into improving on snow I'd suggest trying to study the artist Noah Bradly looks up to as well. While he's a fantastic painter, he's quite young, so I'd look at his influences too and see how they solve problems. Keep up the good work :D.

I would love feedback on my Sketchbook

"Ya can't just draw naked ladies all the time." Oooh I know many artist's who would beg to differ on that xD.

Mountains of madness was the last Lovecraft story I read, love that one(We need a game or something based on it!). If you're planning on doing something based on that definitely try and focus on showing the architecture, it'd be good perspective practice since the way Lovecraft described the architecture was like it was ridiculously weird.

Kv: Thanks mayne, good point, I did a study today for many hours of I think Biersdadt, and picked up a ton of tricks. Still did another Noah study, he does well, just another way to paint snow!

TRIGGERED: Tekeli-Li! Yea, just finished it, quite a doozie compared to the other ones. I have this idea of a dead arctic explorer laying next to a dead snow dog, on the left and right of the canvas in snow, with a low angle camera shot. Then to their left and right are huge mountain ranges leading to a golden, snow covered city in the far distance with strange shapes covering the tops of the towers like perfect cubes and starfish shapes.

So yea, the last one is a speedpaint I did, really happy with it, gonna see if i can get that quality again tomorrow in one hour time.

aight, so a bit of a bleak picture I'm working on... The second is the WIP the third is the color rough. I did the rough then said man this is a mess lol. So i started over with good ole line, and changed the camera angle a bit, which i think helped a lot! Also used DAZ3d to find the poses and perspective, that thing is extremely helpful. Going along real smooth, so that's good!

aight, so gotta love the blood splatters lol, hmm, I'm always tryina push the narrative in a piece now, like what else can I throw in here to tell a story? I had some small blood splats earlier but they just weren't visible, so i added some then ALOT more lol. Now I need to just balance the values; also added some blizzard fallin off the cliff behind.

Man I gotta study more... but i always say that lol

Whew, finally done with this thing! So tired of detailing it. I need to work smarter like, how to make a great painting that has smartly placed detail and just sells the work on the composition mainly. Had a lot of fun with these imagination sketches, just letting my hand do what it wants. Start loose, and build the anatomy on top, even if it's wrong, just see what happens. As long as you're asking yourself how to make stuff look cooler, you wont operate at a loss!
