Fedodika the Koala
Heya man long time no see! still kicking arse I see ;).
"my anatomy knowledge gets all jumbled and confused when I put two legs that are bent or the hips goes up a bit"
You and me both man, I don't know why the legs feel so complicated to draw, the form doesn't change half as much as the torso's or arms and is nowhere near as complex yet they're still really difficult haha.

Reply
GENDERSPECTRIGGERED: Yeeehh heheh thanks! I did some tracing over some photos and some sketches I will scan tomorrow of some legs bent, yea legs can actually be complicated because the arch of the calve and the pit of the leg behind the knee and how those little thin muscles stick out can be confusing!

Kinda took it easy today, doing some research for the scene. Also did a one hourish  study where I tried to apply a little theory I wanted to test. I remember Jeff watts saying "You draw while you paint." So, I thought, well I have this tool in painter thats a filter that makes a photo look like a sketch. My plan was to take this girl and paint the sketch generated by the filter. He's right btw; by the time I got this far with it in about an hour, the proportions I had rendered had gotten off, so even though it was a shortcut, it still didn't give the bullseye when it came to results.

Could be a good idea if you wanna save time and purely focus on color and painting. Just running something through the "Sketch filter." It's kinda like tracing, but you still need to know where the edges and proportions are going to be at the end!

alright, so I did every trick I know to get this rough sketch today. I did probably 4 or five different attempts at the poses, used Poser, posed myself, everything, finally I got something I liked. So yea, this will be fanart of Ginger snaps, the two girls will be the main characters Katherine Isabelle and Emily Perkins. I put more effort than I usually do into this sketch, just like connecting shapes properly, going over lines to make them feel round or boxed off or angular. Everything in this picture SO FAR that is part of a figure was drawn with construction and boxed or cylindrical shapes.

This is as close as I can get the poses in my head. I find that I have a cool idea in my head but when i think of the like details or specifics, it's hard to imagine them. For instance if I think of a hand pose in my head within the grand picture, it's unlikely that pose will be consistent should I imagine the same scene. It changes, over and over, slightly until it's something else.

I think with the bent figures and the hair it'll make some cool silhouettes and V shapes with a nice rhythm. And if I really nail it, I'll stick some text on it somewhere, that'll really send it home hehe. I'll start cracking into the likenesses tomorrow, which is always challenging lol, as well as cleaning up the mess.

aight, so I gotta charge my camera, but I got some sketches to scan in for tomorrow; I did this quick thing after a bunch of composition studies. I like the idea, but the proportions just don't feel very "cool" to me. Thats what i spent a lot of time doing today, was trying to design cooler proportions for this but it was really frustrating... hmm, must be important!

managed to squeeze out an extra hour. Did a lot of paper sketches, came up with these cute characters when i was taking a nap today. I'll draw them out hopefully and that'll doa  better job than writing it up lol. These are some very rough blueprints of 2 of them, I need to do a lot more designing on the shapes, since they're supposed to be teens, but they look more like adults.

alright... soo, gonna probably dig more into this design, it's a little too futuristic for my taste. Also finished up Alex Woo's thing on schoolism which really opened my mind to a way of thinking about gestures that's more towards the "soul" of the drawing. I'm just gonna have to apply it more...

I feel like if i can get this right, great things will come from that.

startin to see some good progress in these figures, actually drew two or three I wanted to save today, so that's good! Learning so much just doing it you know? Like I see my mistakes after I put down the lines and they are getting smoother ever so slowly. All these from today and yesterday are from imagination; not sure about the previous days, but they most likely are also all from imagination.

yaya, there's certainly line upwards in the figures.

You're pretty damn good at painting and doing the caricatures. I've bene looking through a bunch of these pages in here and it's just fun to see how that you've been consistently improving on all these different things. You've got quite a bit of range.

Keep up the good work man! You're clearly doing something right.

Steelbobsquarepants: Thanks m8 means a lot. I think my caricatures suck tbh, I've had the time to truly appreciate how crazy some of these guys are at caricature, like AJ jensen. Just looking at how beautiful his shape and linework is really REALLY impresses me. I'll never be that good lol

whew, got a mermaid commission so this outta be a good opportunity to finally apply soma these things
