Fedodika the Koala
did some cool stuff at life drawing, noticed i draw heads way too small so im gonna go forward being aware of that. starting my gutting of loomis, may do a gut of a pose book on the side because theres a lot of stuff i wanna refine, namely the head size thing. i feel my proportions are coming together in real time, its just mileage thats putting the grease on the wheels so to speak

1. time it
2. draw it
3. reflect

thats it

If i am correct you have drawn the plate75&76 of andrew loomis -drawing for the head. For male figure i think the only comment i would have is how much forehead you gave them i think it to big. Also younger man have much rounded looking face feature than adult.
Now for plate 76 the women. The mouth is a bit croocked on the drawing on the left her face is bigger and longer than it should be the hair is also squash down probably due to bad framing.I think you might have a tendancy to draw longer nose on female chracter. The jawline should be redone in my opinion.

Sadly i think you have lose alot of the soft value transition due to the camera and lighting.I recommend to close the window for the next time you take phto and have an ajustable lamp so that you can try to recover some of those lost value.I myself use a scanner and i recommend getting one if you can it a tool that give alot of respect to the work i believe. Not only does it help you archieve the work you do you can then transfer from a traditional medium to a digital medium with much more ease.

To end on a good note i think you really show that you consider my critic and have tried to improve on the issue i have brought foward it show that not only do you value critic but that you actually work to correct those tendancy if you judge them worth to be corrected.

more loomis, gettin a little better at eye placement, which is something i usually fuss with. Loomis has a good sense of design and little line tricks im picking up on i wouldnt have noticed before. (i had this ready to post last night but i shut the computer without posting it :/)

draw upside down portraits, that'll help you with eye placement since it makes you ignore the graphic read, and just focus on distances between forms

I wish we could flip the drawing on traditional i am sure we would pick up a few error sometime.I guess the nearest thing in tradition is to flip the drawing upside down from time to time.

yea a mirror could be use but it need to be small and it create distortion so i think the answers is still upside down.

thanks yall

I did a lotta upside down drawings today, it was extremely brutal, just made me more aware of how non objective my eye is when it comes to shapes. Some of these were upside then i fixed with an eraser but at some point the errors are so deep i had to just use a marker to point out the structure problems.

Definitely a level up on my eye today, even my recent stuff looks like ass now i guess its a good thing

the dog is in gouache, i liked the edges but late in it realized the forehead was too big, see, just another reason to work on observation. its a practice for an upcoming commission

i got more i did today ill just take a pic of it tomorrow when the suns up

the ones with marker are correcting ones i did upside down, some were WAAAy off lol but i did manage one upside down today that was 80% in the ballpark, just a few tweaks on the ears and it was fine. though the ones i do in 3/4 perspective are as bad as shit i was doing like 1-2 years into drawing

Are you aware of the facial bone land mark of the face?
I recommend you take a look at plate 30 in andrew loomis-drawing the head there really useful point that are on the face that help with spacial measuring when the feature of the face start to overlap each other if you know the proportion well you can adjust the feature accordingly following the perspective.

Are you still playing with a mechanical pen for those drawing? You didn't seem to took advantage of the technique to add large chuck of value i shared a few post back.I would if i was you reserve the mechanical pen for smaller drawing and detail.Anyway everything i say is suggestion experimentation is the key to solving different problem in my opinion.

If you have free time on the bus for example and you have new paper you could practice placing the reily rythme on the face by memeory so that it can be like second nature. It doesn't hurt to nail down simplification and rythme of the face.

draw 2 heads existing in the same environment, same lens, just different positions and angles.
It's hard to relate and compare proportions if everything you do is a single head that exists in its own universe with nothing to compare it to besides the reference image.

Same for gesture and figure drawing, grab a movie or a street photo, do 2 gestures per image instead of just one, 2 figure drawings that exist in the same ground plane, interacting with eachother.

Gliger thx; i did a couple studies and then some memory stuff, then i did later this imagination head to apply a granny study; also did like some more copies, i wanna get through this book because i like what im getting with the consistent lay in times. Ideally id do each drawing upside down with an application of a different angle, and a memory drawing, as well as blindfolded while im at it, but you know im doin that stuff i just cant make myself do it all the time it hurts my brain too much. i can handle a little bit everyday, but i like copyin once i get through that tussle

Im starting up an ecorche in 3d to improve my observation/application/and of course my working knowledge of 3d sculpting. Im doing it in 3d coat, and ill put about an hour a day into it until i get the whole body down. Im starting with the skull since i have one to closely reference, then ill coat half the skull with a half muscle half bone kind of coat. After just two hours of trying to figure out the brushes and smushing a blob around, my eye shot way the hell up. '

I went back to loomis seeing a lot clearer and more critically about each of my lines, which after this weeked was a wakeup. Ill post some pics of it once i make some progress on it, its just this ugly blob right now, and im gonna try to use one or two brushes so i dont get overwhelmed with the bazillion tools in 3dcoat

Sold another drawing to a woman i knew, that'll make the second in my life. gettin through loomis well, and getting a lot of cool insights about proportions and simplifying lighting and shape design. My shapes are getting shy here and there, but thats because im drawing things more proportional instead of the bohemian way i usually draw stuff, but its  a transitional phase so its all good

more fun with a pencil, about 30 pages of loomis left, albeit the more dense ones with lots of heads in diff perspective, but itll be good since its less detail and shading more lay ins which im getting much faster and tighter at

alright wrappin it up with loomis, drew about 90% of the book and im liking all the stuff i learned about angles and shapes. i have a better eye now for structure in the head, particulary bone extrusions, and more sensitivity on making attractive brow lines/cheek/jaw bone indications. might do grello next with some invented characters of my own before moving onto figure work, so possible imagination stuff tomorrow
