Great work! You're evolving very quickly. Grin Looking forward to seeing how you progress further!

I especially love this Harley-esque photo of the girl with the light shining upwards-- Could I suggest that maybe the shadows on her face might be too harsh? I'm not sure-- It kinda looks like it.

But, keep it up! You're getting there rapidly. Thumbs_up

Bookend: thanks so much! yes, she shadow girl was a sketch i was trying to add some quick values and got carried away, spending like 15 minutes or so just adding lights. Yea, harsh shadows aren't a great way to make someone look pretty. I was kinda thinking of this metal album cover, (This picture is actually a man sitting crosslegged but the shadows make him look like a strange monster)

Well did a (3hr) painted study today and tried applying it, but the sophitia i had drawn ended up looking like a dude and i couldn't figure out how to fix it so i just quit the piece lol. Probably for the best,

i wanna try that 100 thumbnail things i think sulamoon was talking about in her interview. I've done about 15 so far lol, but i just deleted em. I wanna get around to doing some good soul calibur fan art sometime soon, but i'm not sure when. Till then i'll just draw some trashed party girls, as that always entertains me haha; It's surprisingly difficult to find good references for that topic, but it more lies in the charm of the subjects than the quality of the photos.

Finding well lit/hi res reference is quite easy, finding inspiring or charming reference is tough basically. especially ones that aren't heavily copyrighted!

k, spent about 6 hrs on the bath girl study and had a lot of fun because the pic was 10 fucking thousand pixels lol, kinda clunky in painter unfortunately... Still fun!

So i'll get back to this tomorrow and clean the rest of it up, i'm sure there are some anatomy issues, but hey i'm just having fun and i'm getting back to drawing hardcore again tom because i found some things that need patching up!

Further, probably next piece will be something less ambitious and focus on just doing something really well instead of having lots of flaws everywhere, maybe just like a piece from the thighs or waist up or something, or a portrait! haven't done that as a portfolio piece... at all!

Well Mohrbacher said something quite prolific on the latest critcast; something to the effect of pick what feels easiest and just do that. So I'm gonna pick (girl) faces and portraits and get really good at that, i made some sticky notes of numeric goals i've set for myself to work at and hope i can stick with it. We'll see if i can haha.

Once faces become very easy for me and i can make them look iconic, then i'll start focusing on anatomy and after that other things, then branch out more and more, and always stay hungry... hopefully!

K i did a bit of texture stuff and applications today cuz well... i love doing that!

But!

I really saw that everything i do is kinda skewed and things don't line up right on a lotta stuff.. I feel i have gesture, rendering, style, brush economy, and anatomy and a few other things quite decent, but my perspective and wanky placement kills and makes everything i apply those things to look kinda meh, and not solid. So i'm gonna do a fuck ton of head lay in's tomorrow from hampton and really cement into my head how this shit looks in correct perspective!

It's really weird how when i copy the same drawing by hampton or hogarthe 100 times, every fifth time i notice something new...

been doin alot of cubes, straight line exercises lately, definitely helping in ways i wouldn't expect! the sketches are studies after armando huerta... I'm applying the KISS (keep it simple stupid) this month on heads, then next month i'll work on the front part of the body and really nail that down, same with this.

okay, i think i'll be getting these faces squared away by the end of the month, the thing that has helped the most i think is drilling basic shapes like cubes and spheres, which, i really wish i would have done earlier. I really don't get why it helps, but it really seems to. I also did a few line art studies by Elena Sai, and i will probably do some more studies of her, the first pic is one. She has a lot of hi res on her deviantart and has great simplification and brushwork, with a more photoreal look

really digging the values and textures in those last black and white studies!
But this one is simply the best: http://crimsondaggers.com/forum/attachme...?aid=77742
Those brushtrokes and values are fucking tasty mate.

Reply
eduardo: Thanks bro! i'm still trying to make up my mind whether i like the brushy look or the higher level of finish, guess there's no harm in learning both!

So a kinda botched elena sai study and two imagination pieces, i'm quite happy with the last one because i was able to execute it rather quick, like under 30 mins. I can't wait till next month, i'm so i can draw BEWBS :)

Yes, keep those values :D now go for a wider range of brushtrokes.
Maybe you can try as an experiment to get a detailed painting while still retaining those sweet brushtrokes?

Ed: my boy, i sure will once i get this friggin construction down... most of these i only spend about 15 mins on tops tho... Soon tho!

I feel like i'm getting close, very close to my goal of getting decent construction, things are still a tiny bit skewed, we'll see how the rest of the days go, maybe a good nights sleep who knows!

Hi Fedodika! love your sketchbook  In love

I Can't remember if I've left a comment before but I'm pretty sure this is the most colorful sketchbook on this site.

I don't really have anything to critique except maybe the eyes might be a tad bit big on your portraits if your going for realism? i like that about them tho

anyway have a great Christmas  Party

Irish! my boy... tell ya what, if you wanna learn color, think of it as a philosophy. always pick a slight different hue with each stroke, try crazy new things for the hell of it, and make color adjust your best friend. But learn values first, as they give that vital first impression! Thank you for your kind comment, I will be workin hardCORE january.

Ok guize, the first pic is an experiment i did with 3d (the skull) and photos, and i think i'm onto something...

I'm gonna be away for a while, but i gotta big plan for a piece by the end of january. It will involve 3d, ladies of course, photo compositing, and dare i say... machines.

but i won't be brash! i promise, I have a very direct piece in my head, and i will save all my progress as usual but i will not be uploading daily, until i get that piece DONE.

But until i return, here some cuties and goodies that sit around on my hard drive and do not much else to hold you over...

I hope not to disappoint...
