List of Favourite Artists
#1
Hey everyone.

I didn't see a thread for this, and I thought it'd be a pretty great idea to get to know other people's favourite artists, what kind of work inspires them to paint/draw/etc, and it's always great to explore new artists and pick stuff up from them!

So, list your favourite artists that inspire you!  They can be the old masters, or modern artists, of course!

In no particular order, and not an extensive list, because there's no way I could remember everybody:

Frank Frazetta
Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell
Anthony Jones
Dave Rapoza
Linda Bergkvist
Min Yum
George Bridgman
Andrew Loomis
Burne Hogarth
Glenn Vilppu
Kimon Nicolaides
Degas
Monet
John William Waterhouse (and other pre-raphaelite artists)
Michaelangelo
Da Vinci
Kim Jung Gi
And many more! lol-- I will post more if I think of them.

The thing with many traditional artists is that to truly appreciate their work, you gotta see it in person. I havent seen any of the great old master paintings in person unfortunately
Rembrandt
Sargent
Bougereau
Monet
Van Gogh
Repin

As for digital art.

Yes me too! I love the Bioshock art so much, and video games in general really inspire me.
When it comes to video games I'd also say Child of Light, Tomb Raider, Zelda, and Fallout really inspire me. Especially Child of Light, the whole game is a work of art.

Digging up old 'digital art masters' magazines and finding artists and what they've been up to. Totally stoked about finding this new material to study from!

Of course this list could go on for days but I'll do my top 10 for digital/traditional.
I'm a sucker for artists who can hit dreamy surrealism and dark moodiness. James Zapata and Jeff Simpson are probably my top 2 guys who can find that nice balance between surrealism and concept art.

Digital
James Zapata
Jeff Simpson
Justin Sweet
Miles Johnston
Anthony Jones
Fernanda Suarez
Dave Rapoza
Kekai Kotaki
Jama Jurabaev
Karla Ortiz

Traditional:
Arthur Rackham
Chris Rahn
Yoji Shinkawa
Amano Yoshitaka
Brom
Adam Hughes
Donato Giancola
Dave Palumbo
Frank Frazetta
Wes Burt (pencil sketches)

My fav artist list morphs into a different beast sporadically, but I always look up to these guys:

Norman Rockwell
John Singer Sargent
Iain McCaig
Maciej Kuciara
Marko Djurdjevic
Takehiko Inoue
Alex Maleev
Karla Ortiz
James Gurney
Anders Zorn (My wallpaper!)

If you are reading this, I most likely just gave you a crappy crit! What I'm basically trying to say is, don't give up!
