Hi all, I found this site after someone one the LevelUp! FB page mentioned how useful it was so thought I'd come check it out. I'm an aspiring artist, wanting to do illustrations for cards, books, games etc and am busy trying to get good enough for that and get a solid portfolio together. I'm perhaps starting a little late at 34 years old and I used to have a good career as a 3d Designer. I've done work for various big companies like Calvin Klein, BAE Systems and lots of others and was really doing pretty well in my chosen field. Then I got diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) which meant I had difficulty walking, lost some vision in my right eye and almost all feeling in my hands. Thankfully, via the beauty of the NHS, I get drugs intravenously put into my system every 28 days which modify my immune system and have made me basically "normal" again. I'm now trying to get life back on track and am pursuing what really makes me happy as life's too short to be wasting it.

I look forward to posting work and getting crit from you guys and hopefully having a few useful nuggets to offer too.

Hi my name is Schwing

I found this forum via a blogpost. Looks like most of you are pros working in the industry which is really awesome. And it's really awesome because I'm a 17 year old kid from the UK who's a pretty mediocre artist who wants to make dope as fuck comic books! I'm determined to improve and get a running start with all this. Expect a lot of questions from me because I have a lot of stuff to clarify! The art world seems to not conform to the linearity I have seen from most conventional careers I've been exposed to.
I haven't always wanted to be a comic book artist. Ever since I was about 15 I've had it in my head that I'd be an engineer. I got the GCSEs. I came out with A* in maths physics and A in design technology. I got a scholarship fund. I chose full STEM for my A level background.
One day it just hit me. I had some sort of transcendental epiphany or some shit. I kid you not! I was feeling despondent about my future. Thinking about what I really want out of it. I can rationalise for life but the fact of the matter is I'm just a kid who hasn't experienced the world yet. And I want to experience it in the best way I possibly can.
I'm going to follow my heart and see where it leads me. Pursuing this dream gives me a feeling I've never felt before - concrete resolve. It's something there no matter what and I can draw strength from it any time.

"I want to be the best"

Just saying that make me feel like I can do anything! I'm tired of feeling restricted. I'm tired of holding back.

Hello there, I'm new to posting on this site although I've been lurking for a long time. What can I say, I love the energy around here <3

Oh man, I've always wanted to join but highschool kept distracting me but I finally graduated this year and I can focus on art for the long term. I love art and want to get better to do some freelance about 4-5 years from now.

I used to have some sketchbooks out on CA and PN but I had to delete them because my highschool advises all students to pull off work in any subject from the net for grading purposes to get a diploma. So until July 3, when diploma results are out, I can start posting some of my other more finished stuff in my SB hopefully.

Hmm, for now, my current and biggest struggle outta all the stuff I'm weak in is color and I have no idea how it works with light and shadow. Proportions is another one before diving into anatomy stuff, how does the neck even manage to stay afloat the body without popping off? :O

That's about it. I look forward to learning and drawing with all of you guys!

Hello,

I have found this place by chance when a friend of mine introduced this place to me. I may be a beginner in this craft, lacking the fundamentals here and there but this friend of mine told me something alike someone else in my life told me: "Mix around with ducks, and you will remain a duck. Mix with the Eagles, and you will become an Eagle." And so, I took his advice; I brought myself here, wanting to learn from the eagles.

About me, I'm a 22 year old guy from Singapore, trying to get into uni. I took interest with art due to my interests in video games and Animated shows. To be honest, I'm unsure about what will unfurl next in life's path, with my current skills and achievements. And so, I aspire to improve. My art may be rusty now, but with everyone's help here, I really hope to emerge with as a greater artist with the backing and mentoring of all of you wonderful people.

I really hope y'all will be patient with me in my struggles here :D

Btw, other stuff: Its not just art I desire to improve: I'm pretty overweight now and trying to get in shape, and I noticed a sub forum for fitness related stuff :)

Maybe I truly found home, eh? :P

By the way, I have some stuff on Deviantart: http://chromeflames.deviantart.com/
I hope that I can improve greatly from my recent works in my journey here. Love you all.

Hi! Just a very young and very new dweeb here, still in high school. Been drawing since I was about 5 years old, and started taking it seriously about 3 or 4 years ago, but due to school my progress is kind of sporadic. Love doing anything concerning designing characters and stuff, and have wanted to improve seriously for a long time but have never found the right place to do so.

Summer holidays are coming in two weeks so I was planning on doing some massive improvements concerning my anatomy, but more importantly my landscape and concept/design skills! I've got three more years until college but since I have to keep my grades at an A-average, I figured I should start preparing for doing my portfolio earlier. It's my dream to enroll in the ArtCenter College of Design (Entertainment  Design or Illustration course), and I've got to work even harder to earn a place in there because I would be an international student...

I hope that this can be the place where I can do that. :) I look forward to these three months with you!

Re-Introduction: Hi, I'm Sean! (AKA Valency)

Hi all!

I had originally signed up here in 2013, intro'd myself, and then sort of dropped off the face of the earth. I'd like to try being a bit more involved as I'm having trouble finding some people to do art with and I'm trying to get back into it. In the time that I was gone, I have improved quite a bit, but only on the point of art, not on speed or concepts. Attached are a few pieces that I've made along the line of concept art.

I'm not sure what my goals are, but I'd love to do some art sessions if anyone is up for that. I miss being around other artists like I was in college.

As some of you are probably aware, the Abaddon art is a fan piece, based on Dan Luvisi's LMS. I'm still trying to work on body and form.

Thanks for having this community! Feel free to check out my DeviantArt or website to see some of the other stuff I've done. I hope to add some more by the end of the year. :)

Best,

Sean

Hello guys! My name is Isabella, but you can call me Bella, it sounds better haha.

Well, I'm a video game development student from Brazil and I want to be an illustrator (oh, and I also want to work at CD Projekt Red one day hahaha), I always enjoyed drawing, since I was a little child, but I've never had any kind of art lessons (only at college, but it wasn't really good), so I don't have a consistent knowledge of anatomy, proportion, perspective, composition... well, the basics of design... Anyway, I actually started studying all of it about 6 months ago, and I believe I'm improving, but I'm still a little confused, so I hope some of you guys can help me to get things clearer haha.

Thank you, guys! I hope I'll make some friends in here, since I don't know many artists  Tongue

See ya :)

Hello everybody,

My name is Maira (not Maria ;)), I'm 23 and right now I work with advertising.

I've been drawing all my life but never took the time to really study it, and never considered it as a career option to me (my parents are artists so I always saw that as a hard path). However, I went through some tough times recently and realized that life is too short and I'm wasting too much time with things I don't enjoy doing and/or don't really care about. So I want to invest my time in what is important to me, and I decided that improving my art is something I really wanna do.

I was looking for people to interact with through this journey, but I'm also avoiding social media, that's why I decided to join this forum. I borrowed Successful Drawing by Andrew Loomis from a friend that recommended it to me, and I'm looking for materials to have a better grasp of the fundamentals of drawing, so any tip or recommendation is very welcome. My goal for now is to learn a lot and make new friends.

Thank you for reading and have a nice day!
