coinhero: Thanks my man :) I ran it by my friend and while he thought it was well done, he felt it didnt match Ivy's dominatrix personality and i couldnt help but agree. I plan to redo it with a pose that suits her character better, though i still love the sketch nonetheless. Mine is just too innocent and seductive, and also i missed out to show her mature demeanor and longer sexier body type.
Desquelor: Heeelzz yesss
Gonna go wild on some masters of anatomy tomorrow to take a short break from watts since it is very intense and requires a lot of focus and precision. I didnt post yesterday because i was working on a private comission and it took all day and i dont want to post it because i dont care for it lol; but yea gonna have some fun tomorrow, maybe do some more soul calibur stuff :)
Also plan on getting through the still life phases on watts and then actually doing these with real oil paints soon!
Still life looking good, tell me if you ever need some resources on refraction it's hard and most people ignore it but it's pretty cool to see how it works
Gliger: Anything to make me smarter is awesome and id appreciate it!
Rick: ahahahah cool! thanks :)
Alright here's that big pile o studies i had been hinting towards; all from masters of anatomy. Im only like 10 pages in so far, like 200+ to go and i think i'll get such a beast boost when im done with the entire book, but it will take a while. I think for all these years my slow improvement was mainly due to just not taking things seriously. I mean, i took the work ethic seriously, the hours, but not the work itself. I feel a lot more confident "grinding" gestural things now because im more cautious about the craft and that i should try to make each drawing good, and build on top of that each time.
Maybe some life drawings tomorrow, gonna try to get my shit in order still, it'll take a while but it'll be worth it. I'm really enjoying everything, its really all i can say
First one is a 20 next is an hour; i like these for the most part, its hard to get a good sense of mass on the back on this model, shes super skinny but very sexy its almost unbelievable her body. its like a perfect hourglass shape and she's quite petite; i think i got a great likeness for the hour one but when she turns around i can barely wrap my head around it. its like the back flattens, since its very narrow, but her bottom end is heavy yet her waist is very small, its just confusing but i'll figure it out eventually lol
my goal for next week is to finish the like 8 or so quicksketch 3 lesssons i still havent done. then ill keep working through MOA and doing the still life shiz
Do more paintings and drawings from imagination!
I really think that's a big part you're missing out on.
You're doing a lot of studies but I don't see a lot of personal work,
find what you love and create your own projects and THEN do studies
which will help with your project.
I hope this doesn't come off too preachy, I really think this is lacking in your approach.
I think you just need go back to more complex construction study and do bit less of those value study.Value study are time consuming depending on the scale i think if you want to focus on value try to size down to reduce the time of rendering.I Never also really understand the need to do so much full nude study unless you aim at alway putting your figure half naked would be good to start to study costume maybe.
I am not alway right you definitvely seem to have a direction i am just hoping you not falling in a comfort zone.
Darkiste:Leonard: Today i tried to do an imagination piece of sophitia, just really went through about 15 different poses. I spent probably 8 hrs today just getting to this phase of a line drawing after scrapping and scrapping; yet im still not satisfied with it. Im gonna try and see if i can come up with an even better pose tomorrow, the pose i had in my head i just couldnt draw it, it would shift too much and was unclear. I mean i enjoyed doing this drawing and I like the proportions but something just doesnt feel right about the mood and the personality of that character.
I wanna be able to do stuff like this, so im gonna keep exploring it tomorrow; I want it (at least currently) to be floating in the sky, since sophitia is a more angellic character. She does well with a more somber pose, less aggressive, and no sassiness or sexiness. She's troubled about her children, blegh the pose is so freakin important to an illustration its crazy, the rest is just craftsmanship.
I dont like how the leg overlap the sword it create confusion atleast when you overlap try to remember to show just enough of what behind by presenting what behind by showing enough of what behind an object you show to the viewer you understand the volume and it reinforce the 3d sensation of the image.
I feel like my struggles paid off with these poses. So after another 8 or so hrs of trying to find a pose, a good one came to me, then i thought, well hey if i got a good one, maybe theres some more. So I scribbled, and got another good one, and another one, and finally this one. So i pulled out ol Daz3d, set up the model, finally figured out how to light the thing, then screen capped it and started idealizing the forms. I'm happy with this, and i hope i dont fuck it up. The biggest challenges now will be a simple background that fits with the image, fixing the arm with the shield, and ultimately deciding the palette soo...
After i do this piece, i know what i need to study for sure, is naturalistic lanscapes, and well, more figure stuff essentially the stuff i was doing already, but throwing in landscapes yea and more still lives so i can get a better grip on composition and shapes. note to self, dont fuck up lol
Damn this allready look sick.I think you might need to practice drawing hand gripping on handle .I think it wise to draw hand near the end of a sketch since there so time consuming you want the pose figure out before drawing them.I also think it still important to quickly figure out how the weapon overlap the figure to know where you will not need to render therefor saving time to work on those hand. That back hand also seem to be compress to fit in the frame and it broke it the arm proportion.
Darkiste, Leonard, Hornkreis, Desquelor: Thank you for the kind heart warming words of encouragement, i deeply appreciate it because its all i have sometimes!
Alrighty, so lots of moving and refining things today on this. Will continue refining the background and the hands before ultimately adding the color. I havent done color in a while so this should be interesting. Still very cautious doing this picture, like i could mess up at any second lol. Its turning out strangely resembling an art germ piece, with the smooth shading and tender care to each form. stay tuned :)
In terms of your image above, I feel like the chest area isn't quite right. The tops of her boobies and cleavage line appear to start where the clavicles should be. Dropping the boobs down onto her chest more will help this and make the whole area 'breathe' a bit more since their positioning is making the whole area feel a bit cluttered.
Her arms feel a bit short for her frame as well - especially the one on our right.
Hope it helps a bit. Looking forward to seeing it finished.
The pillar in the background is bugging me, something about it being the same height as her head, I think you should try changing its size or moving it around a bit. I think if you make it taller it would fall on the same line that the hand holding the sword is so shrinking it down or getting rid of it would work best I think.
Gawd damn!! You are easily the most dedicated dagger i have seen.
I gotta agree with people saying the pillar is off. i think the perspective of the top is what makes it look abit weird.
Also the hand seems off too. looks like her grip is too loose. she needs to hold onto that thing for her life :P
