GDSWorld deathbook!

Instead of doing a humanoid portrait I decided to do a Dragon Portrait.
I'll further work on this and use this as my entry for ConceptWorld's Dragon Child entry. Having fun so far...

Cool man let's see this finished up...watch the perspective on the jaw and forms on the horns; They are a bit off at the moment, don't start rendering till you fix that :) Sketchathon today or not? Working on mine too...guess I'll put up a wip here :)

@monkeybread- Thanks man, I've fixed the errors and with the help of Heaven's paint-over I think I got somewhere.

Some new speedpaintings from Sketchathon today. Was really tired today so had to end it earlier.
Still had great fun and afterwards with Heaven's wise words and a paintover I managed to finish the Dragon Child piece. This one is dedicated to you man. I appreciate the help.

Quick speed painting whilst listening to Dave Rapoza's new youtube video with others in the stream. Was great fun.

Figure sketches, portrait that i'm working on for my brother in law (experimenting with solid brushes) and study of a master painting by Rembrandt. A few ellipses for warm-up.

Good job so far gdsworld! You seem to be doing what you have to be doing, but I'd recommend tons more photo studies, tons more poses and a lot of imagination work.Good luck! :)

Hey GD great stuff, keep it up! Studying masters is great...I really need to do more myself. I feel you've missed the point a little bit with your approach though. You've focused more on looking at the elements of the painting and why they work (which is good) but you just short-changed yourself on the actual painting of it by doing it so quickly and simplistically. This is where I think the most skill and insight would have been gained. Sometimes it pays more to take the time to study the good things...it's not just about output rate, it's about quality learning and insight. I doubt that painting gained you much actual additional painting skill. Just being honest, sorry if it's a bit blunt. :)

@Heavenwill- Thanks man
@Othrandir- You're right, I need to do a lot more studies and a whole lot more studies from memory. Cheers for that.
@Monkeybread- You know I really like it when you're straight and blunt. Definitely, I need to start paying more attention to the paintings. I leave these too late in the evening when I'm tired. I need to start doing these in the morning time.

Portrait and poses for today. I'll upload the annotated sheet tomorrow.

Just felt like using traditional medium today. My ellipses needed a lot of work so been drawing almost ellipses all day long. I need to use pencil more.
Then onto drawing a few portraits from memory. I was quite happy with the result considering the last time I tried drawing from memory all that came out were aliens. Need more practise on forms.
And also some perspective drawings. Getting used to it now. All in all it was a good day.

Haha, actually I'm pretty in love with your ellipses, especially the ones in perspective! And I really don't know how you can do them so clean on the computer :) Your heads are looking better, but I think you still need to work a bit on their proportions, the first one looks a bit like he's chewing on something ;) But still cool improvement!

@foxflake- Thanks man, yeah, proportions need some work.
In the middle of moving to a new studio space so i'll be back into motion soon. Nim, Heaven and Bee, the race is still on. Just need to sort out my space....

Not happy with the figure studies but the rest is cool. My sketchbook is messy and I like it this way.
Must work harder!!!

Now that you're set up there is no excuse :p. For your eyes I think you need to practice drawing them aand thinking about them as 3d objects. The eye ball is just that, a ball. The lids are like a rubber sheathing that stretch and wrap around the ball. This will help you get a more realistic look. In your portraits this is a thing that is quite noticeable the eyes are incredibly important to nail. The Penny ones are better, but still could do with a bit of form. I really dig what you've done with the cool tone on her....play with that theme more! It might become something really cool stylistically if developed?

@Monkeybread- You're right man. Form is something I really need to work on. TBH, I should give up everything else till I nail form and perspective. Seems to be letting me down. Yeah, I noticed that my eyes are a bit wobbly. Like you said before style develops overtime so i'm not really worried about that for now.

Here is another portrait for today, I gotta catch a train home and its already 11pm so I won't be able to do the Annotated sheet or gestures (lame excuse)

Practising drawing 2 point perspective. This time I took Monkeybread's advice and used a ruler. Took almost the whole day but I learnt a lot and had great fun with it. For reference I whipped up a quick greeble box model in 3DS Max. I like it!

And an entry for CW's weekly challenge. Again, i'll miss the train if I do the sheets so i'm going to call it in today.

Carried on working on a study I've done previously. For a change i'm using some soft brushes on my portraits. It feels good.
I've filled half the sheet of gestural drawings today but will upload the complete sheet tomorrow.
