I find your figure rather stiff try to extend your line using the full motion of the wrist and erase back if you need to.You might also want to do a few gesture drawing before your study just to inject that energy into those study.

Darkiste: they certainly are, and thats something after watching prokos critiques thats a pretty common error. Drawing in anatomy stuff really like slows the gesture process down and stiffens it.

Still learning assloads of stuff from proko, the critiques he has for premium stuff really is cool to see even how the most terrible drawings could have errors you just dont see. But yea heres some more of my embarassing attempts and the corrections next to them with notes of what to fix.

The neck is a complex thing, and theres a lot of gesture in it that really adds to a head. Its so tough to get this style proko reccomends down of like drawing very structurally and analytically, but im figuring it out the more i watch.

The two backs is me looking at a reference for five minutes and trying to apply some things from memory, which turned out pretty humiliating. The biceps hang much lower, the larger froms of the erector spinae were close, but the shape i had for the contour of the body was not appealing. I was still BSing some lighting here and there, and of course neglected how smooth the scapula was even with the bulging shoulder muscles. I did get a few things right tho, which is good. I got the general idea of the shadow pattern underneat the trapezius, i showed the form of the trap turning with shadow, and well the rest is pretty much wrong lol

nother grueling coming of age day for ol fedo. Triceps and biceps, some scary bad proportions on some of these, gonna go back and revisit some of these sections and take more written notes for the main lesson just because so many things just slip by me overtime. I wanna do this stuff guuud

alrightey, lots of just learning stuff today, i dont have any drawings worth showing just notes really.

So ill go through them one by one and talk about the things i learned anatomy wise, all from proko premium. and its not everything, just new information I in particular learned.

Rib cage:
The ribs have slight dip the back that is kinda square like
The front of them is called costal cartilage and they bend with the spine and other movements and arent locked in place like the other 12 rib bones
The sternum is about a length of a head and the clavicle rests neatly to the side of them.
at the end of the rib is the xiphoid process, which is a small bump.
More masculine rib cages are rounded at the opening and feminine ones and shaped like the atari symbol.
The pectoralis ends at the fifth rib, and the first visible ext oblique muscle is on that as well.
ribs are horizontal in the back, diagonal in the front, and swoop up diagonally for the sternum.

Spine:
The spine is composed of four components, the cervicle (7), the thoracic (12), lumbar (5) and the sacrum (7-9) (Vertebrae.) The joints get thiccer and curvier as they go down.
the first visible  landmark is the 7th cervicle vertebrae, which is in the center of the trapezius.
the sacral triangle has a panty like shape or thong rather, simple landmark with the dimples of venus
Spine is very curvey, not straight.
Bottom of the head is attatched to the Atlas pivot joint.
Female sacrum is more angled than male.

Hips:

If you write stuff down, stuff makes a lot more sense, who woulda thunk
the hole that the femur inserts to is the acetabulum.
The exact center of the body is the pubic symphysis
Icky things come from the ischium.
oblique kinda covers illiac crest
female is wider for you know
buckets are cool
Theres a minor Trochanter :3

Shoulder:

size of a head mass, and a head mass in between.
top is called spine of scalpula, always visible; side is called medial ridge.
acromium process is a step down from the calivicle.
The humerus inserts into the glenoid cavity
small bone near clavicle called the coracoid process.
rotator cuff holds humerus in place.

mooooooar learning tomorrow!

I don't know how you memorize all this but if you manage to make this information transfer into your drawing than it worth it.It think it best to take note as well as draw it to inject it into your brain. The brain can store keyword and shape pretty easilyin my opinion. For example let say the nose middle/face/triangle after that you start to inject more into that something like half-cylinder/half-ball and than you keep refining alway trying to store the information in 2 or 3 keyword each time you want to inject new information.

I say 2 to 3 because after 4 keyword i think it become saturated.

Alway use word that are funny and easy to remember. For example for the nose you can also inject something funny to remind you of a ball for example linking half-ball to the idea of a clown nose. It will help you remember half ball easier. The brain enjoy creating strange link in my opinion. For example let say your a total beginner you can think of the hand as a glove it make it easier after that to place the finger those are that what i mean when i say the brain link strange or familar link.

I hope i saying something useful here i don't want to sound repetitve.

Darkiste: i did small drawings in the notes, i just dont think they were worth posting as they are just scribbles. And if i do something one day to study its not the way im necessarily gonna study for even the next day

Leg bones today, quite tedious. Really bombed the assignments but reviewing the examples helped with my construction for it. Proko has a really cool way of designing it, and i cant wait to test this stuff in life drawing and a folio piece soon if i can rak up the nerve. Tried to do a better job on the last pic and be neater and more accurate.

I mean taking note direct on the side of the drawing i know it distract from the image but for the drawing you do for yourself.I think there 3 type of drawing one is a study one is a correction of the study and the last one is from imagination if you study like this i think you will see the most improvement.Of course i said that because i have seen and heard many artist repeat this but it an actual hard thing to do because the brain just get bored of the same thing being drawn over and over.

The febula is like a unbend bow shape going inward but it as little to no effect on the superfial look of the leg so i guess it more important to get the tibia shape correct. But i would personally focus more of the knee if you can draw a good looking knee there is little to nothing you can't draw in my opinion. There so complex because there so many thing attaching near that point and it change shape so much when the leg bend or twist.Overall most figure are covered by a jean so i would say you could delay learn in depth the leg but of course if you want to specialize in nude drawing it important to learn. It just depend on what you aiming to draw.I recommend learning in depth from the knee to the foot and than later coming back to finish learning the upper part of the leg.

Darkiste: its good to learn the major bones so you can attach the muscles correctly, and yes some are superficial like the pebble like bones in the hand and feet, but the major forms are crucial for believability.

Learned the foot bones today but need to keep refining them, super scratchy ill try to do some tomorrow along with life drawing. Also this old asian portrait i did a few months back and redid for fun, the camera distortion hurts stuff alot, like it shrinks and stretches things, so i doctor it in painter to make it look closer to IRL

oookey, moving through this anatomy stuff, like going back and taking more notes to make sure im getting a lot of the info i dont catch if i just listen ot a video.

So lets do 3 from my notes here, dont have any good drawings to show:

Leg bones:
The Femur bone is 3 cranial lengths
The femur attaches at the Acetabulum of the hip bone, which is a circular insertion near the ischium.
It also angles in a V shape with the other femur before attaching to the tibea and fibula
The patella is the kneecap and has a small ligament under it called the patellar ligament
If the body is divided in half, its center is the pubic symphisis, and half of that is the patella.
The Condyles are the ends of the bones, or the connection points.
THe point the condyles connect to Tibia can be simplified like a wheel shape.
The Fibula is a small bone on the side of the Tibia
Tough Tibia, fragile fibula
Patella is a sesamoid bone, as it resembles a sesame seed
a binding element of these bones is the interroseous membrane
there is an infrapatellar fat pad that adds mass to the patella.

Foot:
The foot can be simplified into a swooping shape, or a curving box
The large heel bone is called the Calcaneus.
Tarsals is the word for toes, carpals for fingers.
The arch of the foot is for support, many structures use arches since they bear weight well.
There is a bone that just back from the pinkie toe, it is a good landmark halfway on the foot
the navicular along with other pebble like bones, allow flexibility, and attach to the tarsels.
The ankle is diagonal, not straight across.
the greeks idealized the second toe over the big toe, making it longer.

Pectoralis:
attaches to the side of the sternum and the humerus from a tail.
the small depression in the clavicle near the deltoid is called the infraclavicular fascia
there is a pectoralis minor but is completely covered by the major
There are 4 insertions, clavicular, sternal,  lower abdominal.  and bicepital groove
whole length of sternum.
its aponeurosis covers the external oblique.

Theres obviously a lot more i could write... gonna get to finishing up the forearms tomorrow which was an absolute labyrinth, same with the neck.

the forearm is a nightmare, but these vids have helped me work it out.

So i broke it down to like 3 parts at least for the pronated wrist.

1. the ridge muscles are an easy landmark with the brachioradialis on top and the extensor carpi radius longus underneath, which is a very dominating muscle.
2. there is a big bullet shape in the center which has the big extensor digitorum which is a muscle i remember well, and a few others like the carpi radialus brevus, and minimi.
3. the extensor carpi ulnaris is another easy landmark, which is following along the bottom curve of the ulna, but it can be tricky since the ulna changes position on the radius.

my drawings are getting better but still embrassingly scratchy, but i think im learning quick despite that. Ill definitely need to review this stuff as time goes on.

Bones: Thanks! yes it is :)

Artloader: Im feelin it!

learned some butt muscles today, gonna quickly wrap up the inner leg muscles tomorrow and get on the final swoop to the hands. Im almost done watching the anatomy vids once but ill definitely need to come back and refine stuff as itll probably take a few times to fully grasp it. theyve been immensely helpful, and applying this stuff to some online poses was a lot of fun, i should set aside a day and just practice like the bean, bucket, basic spine, robo bean, etc. a lot of the proko concepts because theyre quite useful. I feel a hampton vibe coming in some of my approach now, which i like;

Really just got to refine this stuff, i have the tools now, itll help loads going forward

whew lad, so doing some hands, thighs and hand bones. I also included one of the hands i drew on top of to make some notes if i felt it was close but there were minor differences in edge choice. I was surprising myself with some of these, though some of them were going off the page lol, and some sausagey fingers are ugly, its good to notice that.

The hand lesson is quite long, so itll probably be like 2 days to competely finish it, then i shall begin the first imagination project ive done in a couple months since... august

I would say be careful with the rotation of the finger they don't rotate on the socket it the wrist that rotate.Finger can spread and grab. The 3 finger on the outside also don't move independately when one is pull it move also one of the finger next to it inside of those 3 finger.Just test yourself.

Darkiste: normally id agree, but thats the reference and ill include it as the first post, its just a really flexible hand; thanks for the input though, i appreciate any feedback

So finally wrapped up the whole anatomy course, know 200% more about it than i did going in, and most of the knowledge is sticking so its great. Im sure in a few months ill have to revisit it to refresh, and take even more notes. I didn the assignments the best i could, corrected everything, watched the critiques, and just tried to learn learn learn. All that being said, im taking tomorrow off to recover from this immense brain drain, its been intense.

Then well start up on that folio piece very very soon. itll probably be 4 science fiction military characters that i had sketched back in october. 2 guys, 2 girls, with expressions, weapons, and costumes. With all the tools I now have, this ought ta be intersting

Just make sure to understand the bone of the hand it specially important for hand because they often show specially when you grab object the stronger you grab the more apparent they should be.

Darkiste: thx

So ya ol boi fedo was out cold the past two days with a wicked stomach virus he caught from his redneck relatives, and couldnt even raise his koala paw to draw a thing. Buut finally he got back around to it and started on this character piece. Its based on this sketch i did back in october, and switching to first person, I used anatomy360 as a helpful guide to lighting the face, since its got a well built lighting interface. I tried to upload it last night but internet cut out the minute i went to and i had to sleep for it to work again

Im trying to figure out now what kinda costumes i want to make; I studied a few science fiction designs and i was just very cynical about them, about how unfunctional they are. Like a civillian on a ship, they all seemed to have metal shoulder pads, why would you need a such a primitive form of protection if youre in such a high age of technology? I remember drawing, just so many things, and thinking, man i would never do any of this; though before i had drawn it, i'd assumed it was a good design.

and sure, i mean in fashion nothing is really functional besides protecting the body and keeping warm, its just... youd want comfort too right? anyways, im working out the pose, was struggling with the calves, i kept drawing one like really close to the camera, and one with a terrible shape design for the distant one. The hips are also too chunky, but im gonna redo the line drawing completely before adding color
