Belanaite's Sketchbook

Hey,

feeling super old nowadays I thought it might be time to start practicing seriously and communicate with other artsy people again. I've only started drawing seriously about a year ago.

Make sure to bash my work and give some good critique when popping by!

Yume Nikki fanart. Not at all finished, and i'll have to wait until I've learned some things to finish it.

Todays studies

The colors of the body color study are more warm colored on the cintiq, any clue how to calibrate that thing corretly?
That (noref) environment sketch seriously sucks :D oh well I'll just have to practice more!

Hi! Great studies!
Cintiq have some odd problems with colors, on my 12wx it's especially visible with violets/pinks. Unfortunately I didn't find anything correcting it :( I always check pictures on different monitors if I want to be sure if it looks good but overall it's never that big problem.
Keep working and post more :)

Thanks Madzia, thats an idea.. I've spent the last hour or so to try and recalibrate, but ugh. I'll just double check both screens hah

@Darktiste damn you've noticed I avoid both :P

I've only been doing boring anatomy/gesture the last two days, but also this very awesome Sketchbattle that's going on on facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/SketchbattlePage
I suggest you check it out and participate because it's not only great fun, you're actually forced to draw things you wouldn't in your comfort zone (I had to google up how to draw splashing pee!)

My Character Sheldger (Inspired by the Game Shelter where you play a Badger mother protecting her cubs)

Nono don't read this, read the previous pages on the sketchbattle page first! Much funnier this way..I'm not really satisfied with the values/environments and all, I have to practice how to do great things in little time :)

And yeah this Sailor Saturn sketch I'm probably going to paint (anatomically corrected) someday:

i will continue to demand hand and foot study until you die.
=) also if you find something boring maybe it time to switch to other type of study(hand and foot) and get back to the ''boring stuff'' after that.
I will teach you something important boring is never boring if you do not take the time to enjoy what you do and put love in the work you make it going to be boring never do something just to do it or it going to destroy you sometime(ok sometime you won't have the choose to do boring stuff but take this as a opportunity to challenge your skill or patience)

Back from holidays! Been in Belgium for a week visiting family, only did some gesture studies on horses there. Now back to work! I feel like I don't use my time efficiently enough, because I'm not sure where to start first..

I'm seeing some improvement since my earliest posts, but I still feel like I couldve improved more. Got my BA degree and am now a fulltime freelance Illustrator.

Right now I'm working on understanding anatomy and lineweight. How to portray things simplified with lines, which to omit and which to emphasize

Random marker shapes exercise:

Top ones are studies from the Manga artist "Nagabe"
and the bottom one is from photo ref (and has a way too huge torso)
