Boil a brew, pop open a redbull. And thanks for your time o7
I have been lurking around here for a wee while now.
Having stopped drawing and designing for several years though, the resources and inspiration were still being bought, read and stored. Brought over to Crimson Daggers by Mr Rapozas incredible art work, which was stumbled upon on the Deviant art website while gathering inspiration for an image bank that was started several months ago.
Waaaaaay back in June while on a family holiday I had downloaded onto my phone Mr Brad Rigneys, "A hostile takeover" tutorial that I purchased.
Sitting watching this in bed with the headset on while my wife and kid slept, I was taken back to a world that I wanted to be part of several years ago while studying Graphic Design and Multimedia.
The rescource gathering swung into full operation. Using Youtube to its full potential, I came across Dave Rapozas wonderfull tutorials, was introduced to Daarken, kekai kotaki and numerous other masters.
To those gentlemen, I salute you for the inspiration that you give us all from your tutorials and interviews (interviews hosted on the daves youtube page).
If you have read this far, big man hug!!
About me. 39 years old, husband and father. Work full time.
I have been drawing since a kid. How to draw comics the marvel way, bought waaaaaaay back in 1987. Wow!!! What a book. Stick figures then cylanders and spheres, flesh it out. Pencil in the lines. Mannnnnn, thats friggin batman ah just drew *wink.
I hope to help others and receive the crit and makes friends. Aiming to upload a piece everyweek. Spare time is tight, roughly 3-4 hours a night.
Is there ts or ventrillo in use here. Would be good to chat about life and art with others. I miss the college/studio environment. Its magical to be with others with the same interests. People can thrive.
Really wicked to see a community of this kind thrive! I just started to get serious about digital painting a year ago about - and jumped in and out of watching youtube videos of daggers' stuff.. Thought it was about time to join in.
So bit about me, come from a classical animation background, been working in the animation and games industry in some way shape or form for ten years. Got into arts management earlier than I thought, and now just want to create artwork with strong story and emotional impact ... I guess we all want that :P
Largely self taught with the digital painting, few online courses - but really want to get serious about it and launch a freelancing business, trying hard to get the animation style tendencies to go away!
Ok that's that - some work posted up here for now, will try to get organised and post regularly!
I was one of those long time "watchers but no doers" that stalked around conceptart.org since forever. I've had some sketchbooks up there for some time, but always gave up. Now that I've finished my education and willing to become pro, I'm going to invest all my free time into becoming what I want.
I saw Awesome Horse Studios livestream first. Then, one day, I found about Crimson Daggers, and watched their recorded interviews. I made an habit out of listening to it in the background while I sketched. Then I ran out of those, needed more, fresher meat. And found sickbrush's mentoring class. There's this guy, who paints like there's no tomorrow, doing a class just out of his kind heart? I said, sign me up! But, alas, it was too late....
I'll be following the forums from now on, and doing the assignments as I'm able. This here, guys, is pure love. The forums, the partnership thing, the mentoring... pure love.
Hey, I'm new to the community, refferred by Sycra. I've been studying under him and he suggested a few ways to get into the artists community and meet other people out there like us. Just a little about me, I'm about to be married in a month so super excited there. I've recently switched my mediums from pencil/photoshop to strictly photoshop and been loving it. I use a 24' Cintiq for painting which definitley has it's ups and downs. Anyone else notice that the last 10 - 15 values of black are all the same pure black? I'm just ranting now :P Well, it's nice to be in your community here and look forward to talking to all of you in the future!
I'm really glad my friend showed me this forum as i've totally hit a wall.. I've been drawing for about 9 weeks, And my latest drawings don't seam to me to be getting any better.. if anything i've gotten worse.. haha I have really high standards on myself and i dont like ANY of my artworks yet.. i draw 6-8 hours a day 5 days a week.. I think im missing something as i just cant seam to do the whole " Hey that mountain looks so detailed! but when i look up close its just so basic it gives the illusion of detail"
I'm following you daggers quit a while now.
It's about time i introduce my self.
I'm Michael "Loomic" Loos and I love painting drawing and creating.
I study communication-design and illustration near Cologne Germany and want to work in the entertainment industry.
With your help I hope to improve and maybe I can be of help too.
Lets grow in our arts together :)
The Goblin Sorcerer below is a sketch i'm working on right now.
Hey guys! I'm from São Paulo, Brazil and i'm 17, i started with drawings when i had 5 or 6, then i started art classes with colored pencils, but i left the classes because the bills ):

Hello Crimson Daggers!
My name is Tyler.
A buddy of mine is a fan of Mr. Dave Rapoza and told me to check out his art and I found this wonderful fantastic thing you guys have going. Although I do not know how steady it is considering you guys are, I am sure, busy people. I have been following the Crimson Daggers for a few months, the best I can, although I have yet to watch a live livestream. I have tried multiple times to get up and watch Dave, Dan and a few other people but our time zones are different, your 9am is my 6am, and nobody was on. I figure you guys are busy but anyways!
I want to learn, I am currently going to a art school, you guys actually talked about it at one point. I am at the Art Institute in Seattle. I am still very much a beginner, I have very little skill but I am determined to improve and I hope with your help I can improve outside of class. I have a hard time studying on my own, so I am looking forward to meeting you all and studying along side each an everyone of you.
I am pretty busy with school but I am fairly free in the mornings and at night. I have very little experience, but I do have a year roughly with photoshop.
I'm Jan and I'm from Germany, but my parents are from Poland, so that's the reason for my Accountname.
I've been working with Photoshop for a year now and I did also a lot of traditional drawing during that last year. I did some drawing before during school, but nothing more then sketches.
I joined that forum because I want to really push my drawing skills, especially with colors with which i really have problems in the moment.
I'm also doing 3d-Sculpting for about 6 months now and overall I concentrate on Characters more then environment and I try to get better with it through studies and life-drawings.
I'd be happy if you have a look at my stuff both on my blog or my cghub-page and would appreciate every critique or tipps! In general I'm trying to get my paintings as realistic as I can - even if I'm still far from this point!
Here are the links for both my blog and my cghub-page:
I attached both a painting and a sculpt I'm currently working on - hope you like it!
For the gladiator sculpt I used a predefined Humansculpt - so basically it's just the armor for the moment.
