  Hi everyone

Hello,

I'm a first-year PhD student from/living in Bristol. I'm 23 and I recently (~6 months ago) started drawing again. I got started because I'm currently teaching kids to program games (once a week) and I needed to make art content for the practice game I was making, but I got hooked pretty quickly and I've been taking art classes and drawing pretty much every day since.

Although I'm not expecting to have a career in art, I'm serious about improving and I'd like to get to know others who feel the same (about the improving). At the moment, I have a tumblr (which I'm a bit embarrassed to post given all the incredible artists that hang out here!), but I find that tumblr is really useless for talking to people, so I've been looking for a good forum for a while. Hopefully, this is it!

In a couple of weeks, I'll be starting 2 sets of life drawing classes (~5 hours) a week, which should give me plenty of stuff to post and ask for crit on :).

So I guess that's me! Hopefully, I'll get to know some of you, and see you around the forum.

Hello everybody and nice to meet you. This is my first day here.
I hope it will be a productive and qualitative experience, and definitively i need some directions in this direction.

This is what i worked until now in a [still life] + [anatomy] Challenge with the people from conceptart website(but i will give you the link from deviantart because is more clearer and ordered). >> http://q12a.deviantart.com/gallery/ <<

I heard and pointed to your website by some very awesome people from CA, like snatey(render),brent(monsters),nim(atmospheric),Long(concept),Mike(american) and much more... :)
I speak with them in G+ hangouts almost everyday. That why the involvement.

I am here to grow as an artist, to know other artists, to debate on art and methods, techniques, and tips. I heard only good things about you and I really hope i can be a part of this group.
To the future!!! (and beyond)...

Hi guys, how are you doing? My name's Alexander, I'm new here and I'm from a backwater country in the middle of two oceans, Indonesia, so bear with my poor writing and slow internet connection Smirk

Anyway, I've just started career as digital artist in this 6 months and I feel like I need an active community or better yet, a tutor or mentor to help me improve my skill. There are tons of great artists out there, and one of the best in my eyes is Brad Rigney. I really like his drawings a lot. So, hopefully I find the right place here and I welcome anyone that want to share wisdom, artworks, or simple talk between artist. Wink

So yeah, I won't talk at great length here, hopefully there's someone in this forum who wants to guide me in digital art. Thank you for your time and nice to meet you folks Happy

Hello everybody!

My name is David, I am 25 years old and writing to you from Danmark. I finished my bachelor degree in biology in January and have decided to take a break from school. During this break which will be around 1 year (maybe more, you never know) I would like to get in touch with my creative side again, which has been neglected for far to long.

Drawing has always been a big part of my life, but the last couple of years I really have not been able to practise it that much. This has mainly been because of school, and also because of the fact that I have surrounded myself with friends who just are not interrested in drawing and such (they have some other great qualities instead). So my favorite past time practise has been put on a shelf collecting dust.., collecting dust until now that is :)

I have started drawing again. Mainly pencil, but I also got my hands on a wacom intuos5 drawing tablet, so I am also trying to get the handle on photoshop. What I have been looking at so far, has been quick gestures, so I can get a handle on the anatomy of the body and its motion. My drawing skills at this moment are pretty rusty so it will take me a while to get back to where I finished last time. The level I was on last time, was in my oppinion "slightly" above amateurish.. I had some understanding of anatomy, lighting and color.

What I would like for my future is an even better ability to draw, so it will be possible to leave the rank of an amature, maybe even becoming so good that I can make a little money with my drawing skills. In that sense I am thinking of charater and enviroment design. Being able to draw the things I fantasize about is really a dream, something I never have been able to, probably because of the lack in skill.
I hope the crimsondaggers forum can help me with this, the drawing skills many of you have are incredible and very inspiring, but very overwhelming as well, because where do I start so I can get better?
The first thing I would like to do is to join a study group, so I can get some help and be helpfull. A study group would also be able to give me some structure on my practise which maybe at one point can help structure an every day drawing routine.

This is my introduction people, hopefully not a too boring one :)

-David-

PS: I am not very familiar with forums and have never ever been active in one before, so bear with me. I generally ask a lot of questions ;) I will upload a sketchbook as soon as possible!

My name is Alex I'm 23 years old and am from Bucharest, Romania. I graduated ceramic arts department, and about a year ago I got an Intuos tablet and I want to get better at digital painting, and hopefully work in this industry.

I have a big problem,i can't draw daily,i just can't. I sit and watch tutorials and when i'm done, I have no idea where to start drawing.ANYWAY, I would like to improve my skills and learn from you great artists. It looks like this is a great place to do that and also make friends, because staying at home trying to study pretty much kills my social life. And sorry about my english.

Some of my work
P.S. the ceramic stuff are from college.

How's it going everyone!

My name is Joel, I am 16 and I recently acquired an intuos 5. I am absolutely determined to get better at digital art. I'm going to focus my studies on getting better at anatomy, forms in general, colour theory, composition, painting digitally, everythinggg. Right now I'd say I'm about as amateur as amateur can be which is fun because I learn so much each day but at the same time the sheer amount there is to learn is pretty daunting.

After browsing crimson daggers a bit, I have to say I'm awestruck by all the brilliant artists and the overall attitude of everyone. You guys are wicked.

I'm kind of shy because I have no idea whether or not to comment/really jump into the community because my opinion is like nothing compared to all the people who have been here for years :/

TL;dr I'm a scrub who wants to improve, the community here is amazing, love you all and I'm really shy (yet excited)

Hey everyone :)

My name is Michael and I'm currently an animation student in Ontario, Canada. I recently found about the Crimson Daggers while watching some artist interviews and the name kept coming up until I found myself watching the daggers livestream and thought it was time to actually check it out for myself. My goals right now started to drift outside of the animation world and more toward illustration and design and I was looking for a more involved way to study those things, so the daggers sounded like the right place for me. Anyway, I look forward to getting involved with the community and meeting some like minded people.

i am hapaldo, and like basically the rest of the forum, i am making attempts to be an artist. grand! yes. yes, so grand. i am not a genius of words, and i hope that whatever visual communications i slide toward you will be clearer than these petty attempts at pixelated speech.
a bio! yes! i have drawn since i was a wee hapaldino, mostly whatever interested me. alas and alack, this means naught in the world of professional visual creation. if people like the well known Johannes Voß exist with all their motivations and hours spent wisely-- i am still no closer to my goals than a hapaldino who never drew!

crimson dagger seems like a cool place, with critical conversations about art occurring and whatnot, i think i may have found a nest for this hapaldo.
greetings from hapaldo!

Hey Blushing

I don't really know if this is the right place for me to be.. but I really want to be a concept artist/freelance illustrator so here I am...

I am a 21 year old full time Amazon.com employee and college student (non-art major). I've liked to draw since I was just a kid, but was never motivated to take art seriously. Now that I want to take art seriously I have such less time than i did then...Meh

I do have a few really pressing matters for the community here to maybe offer some insight or help on..

First I know that to go from any level to professional in a field as technical as concept art takes years of intensive labor practice... Did any of you find a way to balance this kind of practice with full time job and/or school schedules? Very interested to see responses.

Second I'm looking for a mentor of sorts... someone who is a professional who can perhaps help me with some questions I have and guide me on my journey a bit Rolling eyes, funny thought

I know I'm asking alot here.. and hopefully I'm in the right place!

I'm pretty green at drawing, extremely at painting. I'll be sure to throw up a sketchbook soon for you to see.
