  Hello! New Guy Here.

What's good Crimson Daggers!

I'm Mario and I'm happy to have found this community. Came upon this place from a blog post by Noah Bradley (Check it out here if you get a chance). I am from Atlanta, GA, but currently, my wife and I live in Naples, Italy for my current job. If there is anyone here in the Naples (Napoli) area, let me know!

Anyways, I am here to get into an art community to get better. I have always been interested in fantasy, sci-fi, and gaming art and I even went to school for animation, but am not working in that field, due to...well…life. After, being in my current job for the last six years, I have come to a cross road. Either, be afraid and plan my future in my current job, or man up and follow my dreams.

You all are now part of my pursuit of happiness and I hope that I can help you all as well. Thank you in advance for the camaraderie, the critiques, and the overall accountability that I believe will help improve our artwork.

First stop after this post, i will be setting up my Crimson Dagger Sketchbook thread and browse the forums. Looking forward to meeting you all.

Much love and respect to all.

  Hello, I'm new!

Hi,

My name is Nick and I'm from; either PA or FL (can't decide where I want to stay :P). I want to become a conceptartist (that specializes in environments) and/or storyboard artist.

A little bit about myself, I'm 26, and I went to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh after high school and got 3.5 years in only to come to a complete and kind of disastrous halt with my art and since then have just meandering around. Currently, I kinda feel like I'm stuck and not getting anywhere.

I've joined this forum (found out about this forum through CA.org a while back) in hopes of trying to improve my time management and my artwork. I also have a Sketchbook on CA.org, a tumblr, and a blog; I'm still new to the whole social networking bit with tumblr and blogging though.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read this, cheers!^_^

  Call me DvD
Posted by: Darknessvsdawn - 12-20-2013, 07:59 AM - Forum: INTRODUCE YOURSELF - Replies (1)

Call me DvD,

or dark, or that person with the face, I'm not picky. I am an aspiring digital artist, surprise surprise. I have extensive experience with Photoshop and Illustrator along the veins of webdesign and photo editing. But I'm getting ahead of myself, a good description of what I am now deserves a bit of exposition.

I was once training to be an IT person. Didn't really care what field at the time, I just loved working with computers as any teen would. So my amazing parents found me a tutor and I learned all things technological from him.

I learned how to break down, take apart and fix anything that was physically in a computer. Next I was taught troubleshooting and the basics of programming, to get a better understanding of the powerful computer. To start tying these things together, I next was taught webdesign. This was my first introduction to Photoshop at around age 12. From there I kept coming back to it as it was just something fun to do.

While taking classes from my tutor I was also participating heavily in a Pen and paper RPG community. Essentially storytelling with multiple authors. I almost lived on that website for a year and a half writing 4-5 paragraphs at every available chance on multiple different RPGs. From this I have developed a life long addiction to story telling and all it's forms.

Skipping forward a couple of years I started going to something that could be considered a trade school for Highschool students. There i studied both Graphic Design and IT. Sometime during that period I got an internship for IT. In which i excelled... At being bored. That job has nigh on permanently removed any enjoyment I get from fixing computers. I still do for friends and family, but it's as fun as scraping my skin off with a cheese grinder.

So I fell back onto my graphics training, which included Logo design, photo manipulation and 3D art. The last of which i'm not so great at, and have not practiced in a while.

I finished Highschool and jumped straight into community college where I took, this last semester, my first traditional art class. From this class i'm seriously considering Illustration\Concept design so i can continue telling stories in the medium of my choice, art.

Looking towards the future I will either take Digital Animation and Game Design or illustration. It's Large internal debate which will not be settled anytime soon.

TL;DR version: I fix computer good and like stories. Merging the two = Illustration\Gamedesign.
Still learning.

So call me DvD, as it represents my personal confliction of a previous life merging with the new. I'm a student searching and a storyteller trying to bring to light his words.

Hi!

My name's Marcus, and I'm a 23 year old accountant looking for a more interesting life, doing what I love. I've been trying to learn game art for a while already, but there's so much to learn, and so little time, that is easy to get lost... I hope I can find the right directions here, and make some good friends on the way!

Hello, Crimson Daggers, a little bit about myself :)
Posted by: Lucil.M - 12-14-2013, 05:47 AM - Forum: INTRODUCE YOURSELF - Replies (3)

Not the greatest of artists but with perseverance, studying, practice and a little magic, I aim to flourish my artistic ability into something I can be proud of and enjoy for a living. My goal is to understand various art concepts, techniques, and develop my own artistic identity, but, the thing is, I don't know where to began and I am hoping Crimson Dagger community can aid me in that journey.

All my life I've been drawing with informal education and even then my drawings are not that great. I took a long break after HS from drawing, and after some soul searching, I've found out that in my life, even if I'm not good at it, art, is what I enjoy, but I feel as if I am not naturally talented enough to pursue it as a career. Even if I do, I'd like to know what options there are in the field of Art, so if anyone can shed some insight on that that would be great too. I'm scared to pursue it and spend a large amount of money on schooling for something I am not naturally good at, or great at. I feel as if, I struggle on creating unique ideas out of my head, I have no formal sense of texture, anatomy, angles, texture or color, or how something should look etc, I am hoping the community here can suggest some exercises, books, etc to help me improve.

I am taking a Gesture Drawing, course next semester, so this month I am going to spend educating myself and improving (if that's possible),

here's my recent drawing I did, this was looking at a reference though, which is the only time I can draw something decent.

Thanks! I hope to learn and grow.

Hi. My name is Victoria Dao. I'm almost done with college. I took the wrong path during my 5 years of college. It took me that long to figure out what I really wanted to do with my life. I knew I wanted to become an artist, but I had no clue where I was heading to. I went into graphic communication, but finally decided to switch major. I decided this isn't the type of field I wanted. I'm still unsure what I want to become, but I know I want to draw. I have so many personal project I want to create from illustration to animation even a graphic novel, so this is probably heading toward a freelancer type of job. I want to practice, so I can actually create them and figure out what kind of artist I am. I'm already participating in deviantART group to practice art, but hopefully with Crimson Daggers, it will motivate me twice as much.
