Fedodika the Koala
Thumbs Up
Lookin good! Now the whole picture is a bit desaturated, one thing you can try is to make something in the focal area a bit more saturated than the rest, that way it will contrast with the rest of the picture so maybe her hair or eyes just slightly, always think of these basic contrasts it really helps with composition and overall picture making.

Hobbit: many thanks, yes i did that, and after a friend complained to me about the face saying, "I guess your faces will always look like this?" i had to overhaul it. Memories of miles johnston on an old stream talking about his work on the applibot wikia, and him saying "The best place to get harsh feedback for your work is those comments, like oh you totally fucked the face."

So i used a combo of 3d, photobashing, and reference to tune it up and i think its much more expressive and attractive now. I really wish i could push this image further im just running out of ideas. Ill still keep fooling with it though, i might come up with a few more things. And getting back to drawing from memory, appreciating those little things im screwing up on, and actually having a lot of success drawing from memory, even out doing the reference drawing :D

Looking better! Right now the eyebrows feel a bit too dark, the legs and cape in shadow still feel flat (remember that the shadow side also has a light source its just weaker) and maybe add a bit more saturation accents around the focal area. And the breast area feels weird its neither cloth nor armor, can look at ref of some other designs to try and solve that area

If you want to get better at faces what it comes down to is measurement, if you get the general proportions correct a face will look attractive, here is something you can try take some front facing photos and any book that has proportions written down and measure it yourself you will see that most faces fall into more or less the same proportion, and of course symmetry is also important. Any problem in art can be solved with basic fundamentals.

Other than that this piece has come a long way, so hopefully this demonstrates that reworking something and really spending your time on it and not giving up can lead to much better results! Do 10 more of this kind of quality of work and you will have a decent portfolio!

Hobbit: noticed quite a few things today, since you brought up the material thing... So i detailed the cape further with reference, tried to add a few forms to the billowing bottom of it in the darkside, noticed that in bodysuits the boobs dont hang independently unless its specifically sculpted that way, so i bridged them to make like a sack which definitely shows more of a cloth/bodysuit look. I tried to add some form to the leg, and realized the feet were just so huge, so I shrunk them and did some more rendering to show more form. Also detailed some fingers which might not be visible at this resolution, but i shrank them a little and added some more discernable nails, and those wrinkle things in the middle.

I also pulled up some more reference and tried to make her face less man-nish. Note to self, do not slant that jawline in hard on females from the cheekbone, think squishy, fatty face, also bigger eyes, softer, smokier, less hard details, more  a watery sensation. probably go in and darken some of the cape folds tomorrow for consistency, fix the shadow under the chin, fix the fabric definition on the body suit, make it a little more reflective and textured. I wanna get this thing wallpaper ready, so some 12 year old gamer can put it on, think it looks cool or hot or whatever and get on with his day.

Many thanks to hobbit, and gang, for the endless writeups, i like noticing all these things, because in a way it is observation training, just gotta know what to look for!

alright got my timer out and got in a full 8 ass hours today, lots of 20 minute lay ins. drawing small is paying off, really appreciating dimensions more... its rough yea, anyone who says they practice 12 hrs a day is probably lying, i work extremely hard and legitimately clocking even 8 hours is brutal. But hey if theyre really doin it, i hope they can not get burnt out!

Also tweaked a few things on raven, made her torso a tad longer, and one of her wrists shorter and... yea, Im not sure what else to do, i think her face is sexy and im not sure where else to go with it, so i guess ill post it soon; Im thinking of doing cyborg next but probably not doing beast boy or starfire because i dont care too much for them. Then do some other characters from other IPS i enjoy sooo coolio. Kinda wanna do Vela from Jet Force Gemini, i always loved her, and thats an old game that holds a dear place in my heart.

Give ya 50 bucks if you grab any of those sketches, put a 4 point perspective grid on it, and wrap lines around the forms

Also, I like you channeling your inner yasuhiro nightow not drawing the other eye; not dissing, it's a rare stylistic choice I'm pretty fond of, and I'd like to see people explore it more often with both shadow, and exposure.

Gliger; thats a good plan actually to get more out of the line studies i was doing, thanks for mentioning it :D

Ya that was a copy of a brian knox sketch, he ommitted the eye so i was just following that but yea i like this manga artist thanks for the reccomendation ;) and maybe i will omit some more eyes

Some quick life drawing stuff haarrd to keep up that momentum, might be working all day in town tomorrow we'll see

Man o man, you´re improving a lot Fedodika. You´re an example that hard work and breaking the weaknesses with sweat and tears pays off.
Your anatomy is much more accurate, i´m seeing your memory muscle also much more accurate and your rendering skills are much tighter. I´m sensing the vibe of Algenpfleger (Johannes Voß) or Miles Johnston long road to artistic excellence.
I will but say, keep working on the accuracy of the face features, not necessarily anatomically speaking but likenesswise.
Kudos dude.

Rick: thanks a load man, yea miles, algen, and sam carr were big inspirations for me, loved their files of old work, even forrest imel has put his out.. I appreciate the kind words man, I will work this year to complete a portfolio and finally get some online work, and its gonna be non stop ass busting work but ill get it done!

tried to challenge myself with this very frustrating restaurant thing. I spent about 5 hrs on this, laying in lines and trying to do the perspective, made me kinda cranky almost! definitely good observation training, stuff just has to line up, but i know mine isnt doing so so i left the ref if you want to rip it up feel free. I wanna do the most complex things a drafstman can do and leave no stone unturned!

Gliger; YES! i played around on it for a few hours today, was pretty enjoyable, that circle i could do if i had some more sophisticated pen/curve tool. I did try it, i got to a point where i was just like, idk how the fuck to even start this. I cant really use those persp tools because i dont have photoshop i use painter, one day i wont be a pow folk and can get all those cool thingies!

had to do a bunch of other little things, and i gotta some more cant post things tomorrow, but im itchin to have another day where i just do tons of 20 minute lay ins all day, freakin love that

Looking good.

No need to replicate the circle, you can just lower the opacity and draw on top, or put it on a multiply layer.

https://www.photographymad.com/pages/vie...eye-lenses

This is basically how it works, it's about your cone of vision, the best way to get the hang of circular fisheye is to trace from photos that have been done with physical fisheye, or even just reflections on spheres.

I'm loving the lay-ins Fedodika, particularly the ones in line only, nice work :).

Also, are those muscle men from imagination? Good idea to mix in some invention.

Keep it going dude :).

Seem like you have trouble understanding how to allign object in perspective and how to evaluate long angle.
Here a few error that i think are major.
I recommend to place all the vertical and horizontal line first before any angled line if possible. This will help you place the rest of the element with much more accuracy.

The next thing i would also try to do is to draw the longest angled line you can find this serve as a really useful guide to estimate the degre of covergence of other line going back to the vanishing point.

Also remember that alot of thing will generally allign so try to draw line where thing align and use to create guideline. For example here the table should align so is the seat.

Perfection is unmeasurable therefor it impossible to reach it.

Jumping off what darktiste said, here's a gif with the vanishing points, the correct one on the right was so ridiculously far away I couldn't possibly fit it in the canvas, I still maybe off by a bit but this might help you?

It's perfectly good practice to change the perspective in your studies, but it's generally better to get it right first by tracing on top of the photo before you choose to change lenses or VPs.

EDIT: gonna correct a thing 1 sec

yeah so, the tablets/chairs and the big tank are parallel but you gave them different VPS and different horizons, so I did one in black and one in blue to the right to show them better

PS I'm still wrong by a bit so don't take it TOO seriously, the tables are fucked, it's just a weird fucking image

EDIT: hey there again, closest I seem to be able to get, fuck those curved-ass tables and chairs

Artloader: thanks! they are referenced, then done from memory, then corrected from reference; fantastic exercise ;)

Darkiste, Gliger: I appreciate the layover gliger, really highlights a lot of stuff, im gonna do another one soon, i feel just more spacially aware about things... Id only attempted something like that years ago, like an interior, it was horrible, i gave up 30 minutes in. Im surprised i did this one as well as i did, even though its busted up. ill try another one soon, loving this challenge.

Buncha layins, gonna do a longer lay in or two tomorrow on newsprint. i like setting up these still ife practices in pencil and then ill go in and color them in eventually with gouache. practicing small is still brutal, might also do a few MOA drawings tomorrow try to thin that book down some more

man these were fun, some longer lay ins, just what i needed... See i was looking at some amateur work and i realized a lot of their issues is just not designing anatomy well, or getting gestures right, or even knowing the anatomy. Not saying im not an amateur, but its just a common thing i noticed.

anyways, these have their issues, the first one has a too short bicep, his midsection is too short. the out hands too big, the in ones too small, his necks a tad short. the older dude, i really struggled with his head size, his slanted foot is goofy, but i loved the design. These are both brian knox studies, digging his work becuase he has closeups on his insta to study from.

Good work with the shadows and terminators, but in the first one:

These lines specifically add nothing, they aren't following or showing form, they just look like you projected them on a flat plane

Loving the shadow shapes and forms of the asian man's face and the women in post 1,897 (I think it was that number). Your figure forms are really reading well lately, especially the women at the bottom of the post I mentioned. Perspective always sucks, period... Somebody mentioned this in somebody else's post, but this book https://archive.org/details/cu31924020581041/page/n17 is helping me understand it more. I also have been drawing vanishing points and perspective lines over an image before I draw it, and then drawing it in that same perspective, which helps with relating your stuff to actual perspective. The Raven drawing's looking good also- I had a crush on her growing up and I can say the face feels like her, she was never very feminine so don't worry too much about that.

Great improvements, I'm very inspired at seeing how your work has jumped over the past couple of weeks. Looking forward to your Cyborg drawing!

1. Use the biggest brush possible for a given passage.
2. Paint large shapes first, followed by small shapes.
3. Save your tonal and chromatic accents until the last.
4. Try to soften any edge that doesn’t need to be sharp.
5. Take time to get the center of interest right.

Or, the briefer version: (B.L.A.S.T.)
Big brushes.
Large to small.
Accents last.
Soften edges.
Take your time.
