This is a must read for anyone using SketchUp together with Photoshop for digital painting. Tutorial on how to render masks in SketchUp. I wish I known this sooner.

To make things easier with setting things up here's plugin that creates layers from material names and moves materials to their corresponding layers.

A short talk from Derek Sivers about the importance of failing. I go back to this one from time to time for inspiration. He touches on some similar issues about study and retention that Dennis posted about earlier.

THE BUSINESS SIDE

I see lots of references for study and painting stuff, but not a lot to do with the business side of art, which needs attention too. Perhaps I will just keep extending this post with more resources. These are more focused on insights into setting up as a business, than links to companies...you can and should do that research on your own.

General Setup
Drawn and Drafted Bootcamp 1 pagers:
Getting you found
Getting you hired
Getting you paid

Ask some of the top Art Director's in the biz anything at any time.

Contracting
ArtPact also company reviews. (VERY useful for the small annual fee)

Artist Contracting tips from Maria Brophy. Very useful articles
Red Flags in contracts  This handles the issue of licencing options very clearly.
What to charge for licencing

Graphic Artist's Guild Handbook  The handbook to own apparently. Have to pay for it. Pricing, contracts, licencing, lists etc I haven't got this yet, but I've heard it is a great resource.

a place where it shows you the actual size of an object / animal on your screen
i posted it here cos i thought it would be helpful for scale reference.
some object might be inaccurate but most of them should be accurate they also provide details about how long some of the animals are in real life.

Damn I need to look through this thread sometime, always forgot this was here haha.
Not sure if it's been posted before but i've been using this pretty neat ref sheet program http://www.pureref.com/
I find it's more handy then using photoshop to set up ref sheets.
