AlfonsoX SKETCHBOOK
#81
For the last 3 months I have drawn for 290 hours, 3h a day average.
Its time to push myself and have a plan. So here it is.
For the next 46 days Im going to draw 5h a day. Following this timetable.

I want to get,
1: Habit, discipline and mileage.
2: Hability to visualize and develop form with line and value.
3: Improving understanding form, perspective and value.

Time will be tracked with Manictimer.
46 days x 5 hours = 230 hours. by 16 of July.  (12 days missing because fuck my life job)

Then I will reassess.

Wow that is a serious schedule AlfonsoX - I wish you luck with it. Just remember - if you stumble - don't beat yourself up - life happens - just get up and carry on!

I'm loving those How To Draw studies by the way.

I really admire your dedication and focus when you study, and big agree with Artloader too about the schedule there.
If you draw a lot from reference, don't forget to do some freehand drawing in between. Fun and relaxing and most importantly, you get to apply the studies the personal work. Common tip, but good one :)

Art grind is strong here, keep at it!

Im 15 hours behind shcedule. 10%

I so like how Marco Bucci talks and teach that I couldnt help it and singed up for, cgma, the art of color and light with marco bucci.
Starting in a month. I hope Im not too noob for it. Is going to be a crash course on light and color for me.

I think that beeing able to visualize and build the 3d form is so key/basic that I left rendering a bit on the side.
I definitely feel an improvement in line control and visualization but I dont feel confident enough to paint my own stuff.
I thought I should start proko anatomy to move away from random form generation and go more into the proportions visual library.

keep doing those photo collage things, it'd be interesting if you stuck with those and like built up your skills as you did them; I'd be interested to see how they would develop relative to someone who just painted everything from scratch on their journey of improvement ;)

Alfonso! My man, what is your next goal in art? Where are we headed? What do we want to do? What are we weak at? WHY are we weak at it?

Will drawing another 100 heads help or will understanding the lack of knowledge improve the heads?

Look within!

The question is spot on because the answer is that I am lost and have no clue.
I do love everything and cant decide to focus on something.

I want to create characters but also environments and vehicles.

I wanto have correct and beauty line drawings but I also want to render realistic shading while on the same time having abstract expressionism...

I want to design from my mind but I want to depict accurate reallity as well.

Right now, im focusing on form building. Its been just some months ago that I started to see in 3d as I draw.
I can visualize primitive forms before drawing them but still dificult to visualize more complex forms or interlocking forms.
I may be completly wrong but I think this skills is key and is what Im focusing on.

It dosnt matter If im drawing heads or abstract forms what I need is the ability to visualize them before I draw them.

I belive that I cant study accurate anatomy If i cant imagine and draw any form from mind. I may be wrong or missing something tho.

and this is talking line drawing, then there is the lighting part...

on a nutshell I want to do what Ihor Pasternak does :)

Hmm, well Ihor was a dagger himself.. Pick one thing and go for it man; say figures.

Start thinking of your learning process less of "drawing to improve" but "learning to improve"
You've put in some ground work in holding a pencil and you have an idea of how to draw basic forms and stuff, great! Moving your arm and hoping something good comes out of it wont help you get better. I mean it could over a long period of time, but we dont wanna wait that long right?

I think one thing you could invest more time in is gesture for sure. Look up information on that subject in particular and try to learn things you can distill into words and sentences. They say apply your work all the time so you "ask yourself what's wrong and phrase into words and sentences how it can be fixed."

With that concept applied to fundamentals it can be scary because they are so vast, whereas a specific drawing is so specific. Start with some Proko stuff on gesture, the bean etc... I have a feeling you've done this. But seek more "information"

I just wanna tell everyone to get on New Masters Academy and watch Steve Huston's lectures lemme see if i can find one...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4ZIDhM9WOA

Boom, that's the theory im talking about. Watch that and REALLY pay attention to it. Also get his book if you can its less than 20$. connect forms and use gesture to bridge it all together. Then add structure later once it connects properly... It's tough to explain and it will take a few listens to fully understand.

The ones on NMA are much nicer than that old grainy vid but definitely start focusing in on gesture my man. Also get these books and as they say " read them and do all the exercises" and if you can actually do that... You'll be pretty fuckin good!

If anything that could be something good for you right now is just something to focus on like going through some books. As you develop over time you will find stuff you're drawn to subject wise, and a ton of the art journey is just acquiring a superior taste to your younger self. I hope that helps you my man dont be afraid to reach out if you need help or anything!

I am not sure if this is accurate or it a deliberate choose you made, but it seem like you drawing bit more female than male might be something you could balance bit more i would also recommend you to consider adding more "life'' to the neck area by analysing the muscle it nothing really severe but it might be just you not consider it yet.Other than that the content here seem to have a great deal of consistency in it quality i just not seen much of anatomical study aim toward muscle here it seem you study seem to lean more toward analyse of the light and volume.I would like you to encourage you to add more note to your study process as it can aid in goal setting.

I recommend https://anatomy4sculptors.com if you want to learn more about anatomy you can use 3d model there and there alot about bone and muscle.

Thank you guys.

My plan is to switch gears to value instead of line.
The goal is the same though, been able to view and show form and 3d perspective sense. (mainly through figure)

Last of november.
