Fedodika the Koala
You've been doing some really great work recently, love seeing the improvement! :)

I agree with what darktiste said, atm your vlaues are grouped close together and when I squint nothing really grabs my attention or focus. Perhaps add some lighter values to the two women or darken the background as awhole to really make them pop.

Look forward to see this one when it's finished. :)

roanna: hey thanks for the writeup, i looked at your correction agood bit and i cant honestly see how its... more correct? I think maybe with time ill be able to see that sort of thing better, it seems im getting some critiques lately with this cube grid thing i outta try it out myself hehe

Peter: thanks peter, i dont wanna pull the "its just a sketch bro" but thats kinda the case with this, though i appreciate all the feedback, i only spent like an 2 hrs on it and it aint gonna be finished lol. Doing all these compositions for the japanese thing is teaching me a lot about simplifying values, so ill definitely have all this stuff in mind!

More comps for the mural, having a lot of fun with these just keeping things loose and fun. love how these both turned out, theyre all something i enjoyed making so far so im gonna try and keep it that way ;) bout 4/12 done, its a long ass picture, probably over 50 feet of space lengthwise

Posting Motherfucker: thx

more concepts for the mural about 5.5/12 done, also getting a friend fluent in japanese to critique my lettering, im nailing some of them but some are goofy in little ways like being uneven or written on a line that isnt aligning.

Are you scared of the dark value?Maybe you read somewhere that pure black doesn't exist in nature.Doesn't mean you can use super dark grey.Just my two cent of the day.Just my opinion but i find the design more appealing like this because it resemble chinese ink.Yes i have an obsession with value i think it time to admit it.Nice 2 value image btw.

Gliger: ill try it tomorrow ;0

Roana: you do a fairly quick drawing of a picture, say 20 minutes tops (of course you can vary that) then repeat what you know from memory without looking at the reference. its very taxing mentally and id even say painful, but once you do the memory drawing, you check the reference then correct and acknowledge the things you forgot, which forces you to retain the information and critically analyze your drawing better.

I know it seems like  a manageable feat but i can only do like 3 a day it frustrates and hurts my brain so much, it super implants that info in your concioussness, even more than a long study might do if youre constantly zoning out.

Had to work on a lame commission today, so heres another bonus sketch for dr avi, might get 2 more bonus for her artstation post, then post her; i know the perspectives probably wrong, was trying a few things on it, finding the floor plane, im trying to slowly push into that territory of adding a simple room as a background

Aha, I see, thanks for reply, Fedodika.
How do you think, this kind of exercise could help with the "invention" of poses from imagination?
I joined this forum in the middle of despair about my inability to draw people from imagination. Half a year has gone, I've done anatomy studies, hands, Bridgman, life drawing, but this seems to have no effect upon my ability to scribble some believable and alive poses. All I could get stiff, rugged, anatomy-weird bold monsters. Of course, if I have more or less vivid idea of what I what, I could gather some refs and pull info from here-and-there.
This block stops me from having fun with what I do.

Are you trying to find the best sketch with your Japanese illustrations or they all gonna be a part of huge one?

roana: its all these illustrations covering about a 50 foot wall thats about 20 feet high, its a big project, these drawings will all be transferred to a scroll like thing that will hang pretty tall in a tea shop ran by a good friend of mine

Couldnt come up with a lot of ideas so just practiced some quicksketch, always good to run through these; i have some vague ideas for illustrations now, ill try to bang em out tomorrow

roanna: well just take things one day at a time, and if you stay focused, itll all get done. I wanna get really great, and i think something this difficult will be a great way to grow, specially since i cant bs it, its pen and ink, invented scenes, and researching a language im not familiar with.

was loving this one, tried to make the background feel like an ancient japanese sketch, kept feeling like arizona or los angeles for a bit but changing the tree sizes really helped and the slices in the shapes to show mist, and underbrush

How much hour you work per day in general? Be honest.

Overall the last picture is good, only composition is weird, too symmetrical — feels like some kind of Christian icon.

Darkiste: it really varies, like today was bout 3 hrs, days where i say it was a long day are usually 6+ hrs, when i was doing prokos anatomy course it was a solid 8 hrs a day, when i have a commission i get mild anxiety and cant study or anything until i have an approved sketch, but once i have it i can render for 8+ hrs and i have to finish it before i do anything else. The most conservative estimate is 4 hours per day, the more realistic is about 6, and my ideal would be 8. If i didnt get joint pain, had some great music/prank calls/audio to listen to i could go way over 8 hrs a day and not really notice it.

Roana: thats an interesting observation lol, I even mentioned what you said to the client but he seemed to like it anyways. But due to you pointing it out, ill probably add a floating anime tiger and goat who are rubbing their belly to give it a more japanese feel

Really was digging Daves new piece, had to do a quick study of it. I could potentially spend a week drawing all the beads and swirlies, learned some cool tricks in this its a really sweet piece, check it on his deviantart, his ink stuff is jaw dropping, some of the best ive seen, ever. be in town tomorrow
